President Donald Trump spent early Tuesday night making desperate phone calls and blasting Fox News before midterm election results came in.

“I have the ultimate power — it’s called ‘veto,’” President Trump told CBS News in a phone interview before polls first began to close in some states. Already, Trump appeared to make excuses for a potentially massive Republican loss.

Trump also called the Financial Times, assuring reporter Edward Lucas that the U.S. has no immediate plans to strike Iran, the Middle East country Trump started a war with in February.

Trump had a particular grudge against Fox News Tuesday night, texting commentator Greg Gutfeld about his disdain for liberal Fox News commentator Jessica Tarlov.

Even if he died he should still be tried posthumously, if only to give his victims closure, claw back some of the money he’s stolen for those victims, and to insure his legacy as the most criminal president of the US is properly recorded. It will also be important for the cases against his collaborators.

You can’t try someone criminally posthumously, and the civil trial would not carry the same weight.

Let alone the media surrounding him would quickly disappear and his cronies could quietly fade from the lime light with all the money they stole.

I’d prefer a prolonged suffering for him, both physically and financially, but for the betterment of the people domestic and abroad, I’ll gladly take a quick ending and a posthumous charging of his and his families crimes.

It’s not the justice he deserves, but it would be best for everyone in the short term.

While it would be hilarious to watch the conservatives tie themselves into knots trying to figure out a way to make it illegal for Obama to do that while also making it fine for Trump that would ultimately be a very bad thing.

First it would add legitimacy to Trumps run, not that a lack of that would stop him, but why hand him free ammunition.

Second it would massively energize the Republican base, because while some may be tired of Trump, they absolutely loath Obama and would vote in large numbers for Trump just to deny Obama any possible chance of winning.

Third, Obama burned a lot of bridges during his two terms and is very much a figure head of the old guard Democrats that are just now losing their grip on the DNC to the actual progressives in the party. Bringing Obama back would be a blow to the progressive wing of the party that we most desperately need in power. Further a lot of Democrat voters soured somewhat on Obama, particularly in his second term, I’m not convinced having him on a ballot would bring more Democrats to the polls than the Republicans it almost certainly would.

      Maybe not.

The GOP civil war has started, its just a matter of who will fire the first bullet and when?

We’ve heard for years GOP congressmen HATE Trump. Now they see America HATES Trump too. Who (if any) will scramble to cross party lines to impeach and remove to save their own careers?

I mean, we shouldn’t let them save their own careers, but we should let them act like there’s a chance to appease us before we vote them out and (god willing) prosecute them.

Americans on the whole hate Trump, but there’s still that core of 30-ish% who love him uncritically. They’re all Republicans, which makes them around 60% of the GOP and more than enough to determine primary outcomes. It’s hard to get nominated as a Republican without Trump, and now we see that it’s hard to win with Trump.

I suspect that most of those cult members will just stop voting once their idol fades away. Maybe that will let the Republicans recover in 2030, but you just know Trump’s going to be out for his base in 2028.

Just to add to your point about his cult. Reminder a lot of them were politically unengaged up until 2016, without Trump there’s a solid chance they become inactive again.

Mind you there’s always a risk they latch onto one of his kids but they will still most likely bleed 10 percent or so of their numbers in the process.

Not only do I seriously doubt he’ll be impeached, I’m quite certain there aren’t enough votes in the Senate to remove him if he does get impeached. it will be a monumental waste of time and effort. And it would change very little, because a President JD Vance would not be much better.

Instead, the Democrats should focus the next two years on investigating every single thing Trump, his family, and his cronies have been doing, and putting as many of them in jail as possible and completely neutering Trump for the next two years.

          I just don’t know.

This cycle revealed that so many GOP candidates absolutely struggled because their base was split. They couldn’t dissociate from Trump because the GOP base is the MAGA cult, but they lost all potential independent voters because they had to associate with Trump.

I wonder if there’ll be a number of GOP reps who see the writing on the wall and turn on Trump to save their own careers. Trump will certainly not usurp democracy and get his 3rd term now, so they got less to fear.

Hard to say tho. Their behavior after Jan 6th isn’t promising

Well, I think it’s a matter of legislative priorities: do the Democrats want to blow their wad using their control of Congress to try to get Trump impeached and then removed? It would be a monumental effort with little chance of meaningful success.

Most Democrats believe it would be a much better expenditure of resources, instead, blow that wad dragging literally everyone else in the Trump administration before an investigative committee and possibly impeaching and prosecuting them instead. There is so very much to go after all of them for, that it would be a real waste of time and effort to let everyone else go just so they could go after Trump and probably not succeed in getting him removed.

Not to mention that it would be far easier to prosecute and possibly jail Trump after he is out of office.

              Honestly. Agreed.

While in office Trump is essentially immune to consequences - there’s very little point in trying to go after him again.

But his administration and DOJ have been doing some very blatantly corrupt things for a while now, and their only safeguard was the Republican Congress refusing to do anything about it.

Now that the entire Congress is in Democrat hands, they’re vulnerable - so going after them and essentially neutering Trump’s tirade against democracy for the rest of his administration certainly seems the best path forward.

Though we’ve got the next two years to find out what’s gonna go down.

It is not a question of going after Trump’s cronies or Trump himself. Not only are they obviously complimentary goals, but there is no “wad” to blow. Political capital is not the type of game where you spend a set amount of points and once those are gone, you need to wait for your next turn. They have serious momentum now; they have constituents waiting with baited breath to see if anything actually comes of voting en masse, and they need to be impressed.

Push harder for the release of the Epstein files. Push harder to immediately end hostilities with Iran. Prosecute Trump AND his allies, removing as many of them from office as possible. And still pass legislation that will tax the rich and help people make ends meet. These are all the things they got elected for, they can all be addressed simultaneously, and failure to do so will result in depressed turnout and bad outcomes in 2028.
