The Federal Communications Commission is considering a request by a conservative group to loosen rules on political robocalls, including those with artificial intelligence-generated voices, before November’s midterm elections.

Federal law currently bans most robocalls to cellphones unless the caller gets consent beforehand. The petition calls for a waiver that would allow political groups to use artificial or prerecorded voices in unsolicited wireless calls.

The Republican-led FCC advanced the request for public comment and could rule on it as soon as late October.

Consumer advocacy groups warn the proposed change could trigger a surge of unwanted, partisan and potentially misleading automated calls in the critical final days of the election, which will determine which party controls Congress for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s term.

We should make an agent to flood Congressional offices with robo calls. Shit will be illegal real quick.

Republicans - the party led by a huge con-man - want to allow one the most "con’ of cons out there. What a surprise! 🙄

The only reason they haven’t already allowed it is fear of what the other side could do with it, even though that side isn’t quite as devious or quick to come up with ways to screw people over (not that they don’t, they’re just not a quick or good at it).

Yeah… you must be insane if you think anyone wants more phone calls. I barely want the calls from my family and friends these days lol.

Judging by the amount of absolute crap conservatives receive in postal mail, I’m not surprised they want to saturate phones too. It’s relentless.

Also, doesn’t Apple do a pretty good job of flagging incoming calls that are likely spam? Seems my phone barely lights up but maybe I did something I forget to enable that, LOL.

If that’s the case, waiting for conservative assholes like Carr and tiny-d donnie to start leaning on outfits like Apple to respect the “freedom” of con-men and bad-faith political figures to robo-call users of their devices.

Is it explicitly against the law to sent out robo calls from your opponent that say batshit crazy stuff that would be off-putting to 99% of voters?

Like have calls go out on behalf of Republicans saying that they plan on removing the minimum wage, protections for workers, while reintroducing plantation like company stores for workers, and prevent employees from quitting unless their employer ‘allows’ it. Then say you’re going to remove restrictions on child labor and underage prostitution, and allow parents to sell their children into indentured servitude.

I mean, those are some of the ultimate goals of Republicans, so let your robocalls be honest

I think they have to include the “I’m Jack Johnson and I approve this message” thing on every one. But I could be wrong.

I imagine faking that would amount to outright fraud and/or identity theft.

But this is the US in 2026 so…

I mean, just don’t say that part at the end. People are fucking stupid. You can put a sentence on a famous person’s picture and people will just assume the sentence is a quote from that person
