  • That seems weird to me because I’ve never used stuff like twitter or instagram to have a public facing profile to talk to friends.

Stuff like discord or whatsapp made more sense for that which isn’t great either. But, the concept of using public profiles and public posts between people you actually know sketched me out. That’s something I’ve opted out of doing despite giving into stuff like discord.

  • This seems overly simplistic focusing on the positive and choosing to omit info that could shed doubt on Andy.

She left the FTC in 2014 and worked 4 years at the Internet Association lobbying group which the EFF opposed.

The group claims that surveillance-based advertising technology, which slurps up and broadly spreads consumers’ personal data without their knowledge, should be exempted from the CCPA.

Even if someone had a past that was good. Choosing to then work to weaken privacy on behalf of lobby group that represented companies like Google, Amazon, and Facebook should have normal privacy focused companies like Proton hesitate to make public endorsements of a person with conflicting history. What other privacy companies even bothered to make that type of endorsement?

Andy’s support was also not only her, but his support of JD Vance with ties to Peter Thiel/Palantir and Republicans was under the public cloud of Epstein allegations, global tariff threats, threats of removing checks and balances with Project 2025, intention to ignore courts, and aligning with tech billionaires like Elon with questionable spying allegations and discrimination at Tesla. Most PR companies would have recommended not touching the subject matter if not necessary to do so.

Even Mullvad and Brave didn’t make political endorsements through the company, so it takes someone with a really strong alignment with a group to make an unprompted company endorsement and not a personal one.

  • You aren’t getting the point. There’s useful communities even on Facebook, but the overall demographic is tech and privacy illiterate which results in companies being able to get away with the things they do.

Somehow you extrapolated that to mean reddit has no valuable subreddits. When I never said that.

And why do you use words like cope? Coping about what? If you look at my past comments you see I often recommend people to use redlib instances to use reddit in contrast to people asking to completely stop.

Seems you are the one upset at criticism over reddit and hallucinating a criticism to mean I don’t find reddit useful.

  • You misunderstood what I am saying. I’m talking about the general users of reddit and the most popular subreddits that are basically twitter and facebook topics.

Niche subs are still useful, but the masses are what has made reddit worse because they are the largest userbase that willingly puts up with all the reddit changes. So everyone else gets dragged along.

There is a reason long time reddit users stay away from /r/all and stick to their subscribed subreddits.

I didn’t even talk about leaving reddit, but about the shifting demographic as the userbase grew.

  • I’d get rid of the instagram account if that is the case with how much habits are tracked just from browser activity like what you click, how much you scroll, what topics interest you, which profiles you visit most, like, etc. I used to have one too.

Whatsapp is the one that is hard to get away from with it falling more into essential service due to network effect while instagram is an optional supplemental social media.

  • Do you really need facebook and instagram? I think using whatsapp is enough for people to reach you, so at least cutting down number of meta services would be good.

I personally don’t see getting instagram feeds or facebook feeds as vital, since being reachable and being able to chat is more important while reels and pics is whatever. And those who use Instagram and facebook probably have whatsapp, so they can dm you there.

  • I don’t have a problem with Origin, since Firefox stripped of telemetry, ai, and sponsorships is something I’d be happy to pay a one time fee for even if I can disable it.

Having everything stripped from the installer by default from the official source is nice, and lot of projects don’t get funding from most users. So offering something like this seems fine with me.
