Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Anyone tried Drivebase yet? (looking for cloud file storage)English
1·9 days agoTo be clear, right now all my files are local on the server right now. Someday I expect to have files backed up on a VSP server but that’s not there yet.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Anyone tried Drivebase yet? (looking for cloud file storage)English
11·9 days agoJust checking - you know I plan to self host this, on my own PC, inside my LAN, yes?
Are you suggesting there are app owners who’ve written their code such that they can see inside that arrangement and access the files there?

Privacy@lemmy.world•Trustpilot removed my review of Tuta mail saying it's fabricated, I replied from my Tuta mailEnglish
12·12 days agoJust curious, what was your report about Tuta? I’m a paying customer, FYI.
Normally, yes, too real.
But I got that idea from a rep in their matrix board who said, make a backup and then go for it. So I did, and it was fine. 👍
Oh man - thanks for this. Just realized my server still had v10 which is long discontinued for support. Updating the docker was really easy and now I’m on v15, their current Long Term Support version.
Go FOSS!

4·3 months agoAre you suggesting all search engines require payment before returning results? 😧
Most don’t and those that do won’t allow SearXNG to get results. So I’m not sure what you’re saying here.

15·3 months agoI’ve been self hosting SearXNG for about 1.5 years and it’s great. Use it every day, just works.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why do people host RSS?English
251·3 months agoIMO, I think my answer here is really the same for all of my self-hosted apps: I want to control the flow of the data myself and not be upset when an app we use every day is retired or changed or just enshittifies over time. And this way, I know nobody is in between me and the news publisher. They can see what I read but nobody else is watching over that process in the middle.
I was a loyal Inoreader fan for many years before switching to FreshRSS on my server and I won’t go back. That’s a great service but self hosting any app is just better.

I just want to call out that Breakout 71 is a fun, light game I play too, when I need to kill a couple of minutes without thinking too hard.

I assumed this would come up, yes. It’s a lot of commitment to make in advance, considering there are numerous other, cheaper options available without going to the big guys.
