Introducing Thundermail. Ad free, privacy-first email from Thunderbird that puts you in control. You might know Thunderbird as the app you use to manage email. Now we’re building the email service behind it, too. Thundermail is an inbox with no ads and no data selling.
(Sorry if this has been posted before, I can remove it if so but this was news to me)
I was interested until I read the TOS which says they can share my info with third parties for $$$. Totally ironic and complete bullshit.
Sounds like they weren’t quite ready for primetime, but rushed to a launch after Proton had their whole AI re-interview debacle. Although, now that Proton has reversed that plan, this puts them in an awkward spot…
Wanted to give it a try, accepted into the beta, but the beta only accepts the full annual payment… which is ridiculous for a beta product.
Apparently they will add more subscription tiers when they leave beta. I agree that 6$ per month and annual payment is a lot for a beta.
*$72
Saying it’s 6 per month when you dont pay monthly is a disingenuous marketing trick
I assumed this would come up, yes. It’s a lot of commitment to make in advance, considering there are numerous other, cheaper options available without going to the big guys.
The question I ask every time I see this posted:
Who has access to my data at rest?
Amazingly the website doesn’t say.
That’s my question too, and the answer should only be “only you can decrypt it”
I’m not particularly interested in anything that’s not encrypted or not on my personal server.
That’s a fair point, but if it’s encrypted like Proton Mail, is it even email at that point?
I guess they could apply a Proton-like system that automatically encrypts everything and build in a Proton Bridge equivalent into their clients, but that would be some favoritism that might be uncomfortable.
Yeah, I would love to support Mozilla more but the reason to pay for proton or whoever is mainly encryption. Though I’d mostly trust they wouldn’t scan my email I’d rather there not be a way to to begin with.
If you think you can protect your own server, I have a bridge to sell you.
I promise I can protect my own server better than Mozilla can (or will).
How many staff you got doing red team full-time? And how many on blue team?
When you sleep, who takes over the monitoring?
