Credible threats appear to have been overlooked as administration focuses on unverified claims of voter fraud

The Trump administration has abandoned key security bodies meant to investigate direct threats to US elections by foreign actors and domestic terrorists, according to former officials and a recent report.

While administration officials have been actively focused on unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud by noncitizens, other credible election threats appear to have been overlooked, the officials say.

Between 2021 and 2024, the justice department’s election threats taskforce prosecuted 21 cases, like that of Solomon Peña, a failed candidate for the New Mexico house of representatives who organized shootings at the houses of election officials, or Quintez Brown, who shot up a campaign meeting of Louisville’s mayor.

Exactly. This election will prove it. 2024 was stolen. 2026 will be too. With his approval rating, absolutely everyone should be voted out in this cycle. Instead, I have the feeling the fascists will cling to power in another “landslide” election. I’ll still go and cast my ballot, but I don’t think it fucking matters anymore.

Its weird that the only time we have fraudulent election results is when Trump is president. 2016 - fair. 2020 - unfair. 2024 - fair.

The midterms will either be the fairest or unfairest election ever depending on how many Republicans lose.

To paraphrase Republican rep Thomas Massie: “What do you mean election fraud? We won all the damn elections!”

We can safely assume they will be “unfair” because we know that even if they cheat very hard, many Republicans will lose.

In all fairness to Trump, which is undeserved but whatever, He did chain fraud in 2016, he claimed that he won by a bigger margin and that he won the popular vote (which he didn’t).

And just to plugin a rant, it is also such a dumb claim when the “fraud” was also not represented down ballot. If you were to fraud the presidency why not also tip the scale on the Senate and the house. Both chambers that would and did throw a wrench on the presidency of the opposite party.

No one should treat the US as a serious or mature entity until they can prove they’re capable of holding another legitimate election.

The US government and a sad number of citizens should be treated “seriously” as in “a serious threat to global stability”. When I try to predict what it would take to repair all this damage… It is not a smooth path to say the least. And it’s a decades-long road at my most optimistic. Probably impossible to be a trustworthy country again, even if everything turns around hard, for 50+ years.

Well, gosh. I thought their entire fucking bullshit narrative about wanting to interfere with elections was because they were concern-trolling about how much election fraud, etc., they believe is actually happening?

They’d bat their eyes and say they were just concerned about election integrity and free and fair elections.

What happened? Are they just not really all that concerned? Hmmmm…
