It wasn’t that long ago that guys like John Wayne were held up in the US as a shining example of manliness: Strong, capable, doing what’s morally right, and not being “bothered by little things.”

Nowadays the political right is falling all over itself to sell this notion that pettiness is akin to manliness; the more bothered you are, the bigger a man it makes you.

It’s hard to think of a better poster-(man)child for this ideological shift than this little snowflake.

EDIT: Bummed, but not entirely surprised, to find out John Wayne was a racist. I guess my point still stands, as it was more the characters he played than the man himself that people admired.

I honestly don’t know about that, but he was an admitted white supremacist.

Wayne responded: “With a lot of blacks, there’s quite a bit of resentment along with their dissent, and possibly rightfully so. But we can’t all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility. I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.”

          Resentment? I wonder why?
