2·13 days agoFear mongering is effective, it’s why they quote mine to misrepresent people to make them look scary or put a bunch of actors dressed as pigs on an ad and say something like ‘John Politician licks murderers butt holes, would you vote for a person who agrees with all your policy positions and values but doesn’t praise fascists‽’

7·27 days agoUS federal budgeting this year have pushed hard to gut science. I’ve heard talking points regurgitated by college educated folks that businesses will pay for it instead, but when pressed for examples or how it would work they are only able to point to engineering projects, they can’t differentiate between basic scientific research producing testable, accurate models and the products and services built using this models.

4·2 months agoDuring the vhs era I don’t think many had a dual tape device or a way to copy tape to tape so I think it was much more common to record from live TV than rentals. There are recreations of this on yt and elsewhere with old public domain shows and movies interlaced with commercials and trailers and stuff from the same time. DVD era I think it was a bit more popular to have a CD burner for music than DVD burner at first so people could rip DVDs easily enough with a reader but stored them on hard drives or heavily compressed on CD until DVD burners became more widely available and affordable.
