No one driving a car today was alive when the gasoline powered car was invented, and none of the people who were were able to anticipate the terrible consequences of mass adoption of the technology.
The people driving cars today are doing so because they were born into a society that had already completely reorganized itself around cars, and that all but requires the ownership of a car to participate in that society. Meanwhile EVs have been prohibitively expensive to own for the majority of people (although that’s finally changing) and so most people who wanted an alternative did not have one available.
Contrast that situation with AI where the terrible consequences are immediately obvious, cheap alternatives already exist and have for centuries, and the “benefits” of using AI are only marginal at best and only in some niche circumstances.

there are abandoned tech certs for building datacenters that produce 110% of their own electricity.
Do you have any sources for this I could read?

Just don’t ask him about age of consent…

Given that the role of the modern senator is basically just to accept donations from monied interest groups and then do exactly as they say, one could argue that Fetterman is an extremely good senator.

AI or not, I refuse to believe anyone is capable of being the sole maintainer of 100+ anything while preserving any kind of quality. Most of these packages were probably functionally abandoned already, if not technically.

Right? This guy’s move right after nearly dying of COVID was to go out on the White House balcony and mouth-breathe in front of a camera crew so everyone could see how “tough” he was.
No way could he actually die without people noticing immediately.

Right? 2016 would like a word.

Jesus Christ… these really are the stupidest people of all time…

Imagine telling someone in 1960 that the ultimate destiny of the Kennedy dynasty would be “eating stuff they find in the street”.

Geez… they’ll really do anything to distract from Mitch being dead

And no one today would be referring to it as “graceful” if he had actually been prosecuted.
Nixon was granted “grace” by Ford, nothing he did himself was graceful in the slightest.
As far as I can tell, this is just a (defunct) set of standards and practices for companies to follow if they want to be environmentally friendly. It doesn’t speak at all to the engineering and economic problem of how to build megawatt-scale data centers that produce more energy than they consume.
