  • You have a global day and you have local euphemisms. “Evening” just becomes “the dark after lunch” instead of “the dark after noon.” That’s a trivial linguistic adjustment to make to ensure that the thing we actually care about syncing up for convenience is synched up for convenience.

Edit: we already have such euphemisms and ambiguities in English:

    • tomorrow: the day I wake up next
    • night: the dark before I sleep (saving “morning” generally for after you wake and not a strict time like 00:00)
    • next (as in “weekend”): 2 weekends from now
    • biweekly/bimonthly: once every other OR twice every

  • How do you define “no posability of internet acess at all?”

    • Is networked to a central router that has blocked the devices in software fine?
    • Is having network ports but being unplugged fine?

Or do really mean you want CCTV to a local recorder with no cat ports and no WiFi cards at all so that you can’t physically connect the cameras to the internet even if you wanted to?

I have several poe reolinks that connect to an NVR which is plugged into my router and blocked from accessing the wider internet. I can use the app just fine at home, but nothing is escaping to the broader web. One could unplug the NVR from the router, thus removing the possibility of leaking to the internet at the expense of needing to use the physical HDMI and USB port when investigating incidents.

  • Copyright (and IP laws in general) is a means to capture parts of the market and is antithetical to producing a rich and vibrant culture. It artificially sequesters ideas away preventing a communal refinement and growth of those ideas. It’s commodifying nature corrupts creativity in pursuit of fiat.

I don’t like AI as a tool. It’s got a lot of problems, including it’s extortion of society’s creatives in pursuit of a diluted simulation of creativity–one which, as of yet, cannot produce something intrinsically new.

The solution to both of these is to remove the capitalist incentive and reprioritize society’s interests in the needs of the people. When creatives don’t have to rely on artificial limits of the market in order to stay alive and we can move to a system where creatives are free to create, not merely eek out moments of creativity between employ then they will be free to actually create–all of them, not just the lucky few. When the machines are decoupled from their own need to make money and are turned away from the simulacra factory toward covering essential, but boring tasks (and we’ve addressed the ecological disadvantages) then people will be further empowered to pursue creative interests.

Creativity should be bountiful and belong to society as a whole. It should not be a job–in part because we should build a future where jobs are optional. It should not be siloed into one mind for life plus 4 generations or trapped in an organization only to be checked out temporarily to boost profits.

  • [Trump] criticized the Smithsonian Institute and National Park Service sites for allegedly focusing too much on the history of enslavement in the U.S., instead of the country’s “success.”

    The US

    • Became a nation in 1776
    • Passed the 13th amendment legally ending chattel slavery in 1865
    • Carried the message of freedom into Texas in 1866
    • Continued share cropping as a wide spread practice through the 1960s (my dad was born in the 1960s)
    • Still enslaves people today

Our entire history is built around slavery. Any discussion of the US should reflect it’s sordid past of enslavement, and any success we do see is built upon exploitation.
