What good politicians do is say something that appeals to the masses, while dogwhistling support for the thing their constituency wants. I think generally dems have been doing this, but somehow “I think trans people absolutely need medically necessary care” is not clear enough, when almost every state has included gender affirming care as medically necessary.
The vote-scolding is almost never towards trans people, it’s towards people who say the dems aren’t doing enough and don’t vote, and let literal fascism win instead. The message is towards the people who aren’t viscerally affected who still didn’t vote or voted 3rd party, and their vote DID matter in this super close election to prevent literal fascism.
Throw trans people under the bus (reality: support trans people but not enough) or literal fascism are your 2 choices. Since option #1 is never acceptable ever we will just go with fascism forever always as they do state-sponsored anti trans propaganda I suppose. Enjoy being sent to camps under fascism and not receiving gender affirming care instead of not being able to play in sports for the same gender. Both sides ig. Most mainstream democrats have stated explicit support for trans people, it’s just not enough apparently.
They didn’t cave until they lost the messaging, and yes the messaging has been unbelievably bad. There’s a series called the alt right playbook where one of the strategies is control the conversation, democrats are always playing defense saying no we don’t want everyone to be transgender no we aren’t giving 8 year olds hormones for no reason. That’s just a losing strategy.
I’m not saying they couldn’t be doing more, but it’s like trying to stand up for black rights in an election in a community of racists, you’re going to get swept by the guy who is openly racist. The media has massively failed us on the trans issue and now most Americans are anti trans, it sucks and I have trans friends who are super hurt by it, but I’m not going to let the fascist supporters win, when they are actively trying to kill Americans, and trans people, and the rest of the world.
Do people not realize Republicans won in their messaging? Everything related to trans support is MUCH lower than it was before. The best democrats can do is dogwhistle support, because it’s very unpopular right now, which it’s horrible that’s the case but thats not the fault of the politicians who are trying to improve things.
His argument is that other republican states will use this as precedent for disobeying federal law, I’m just not sure how he hasn’t realized Republicans don’t care about precedent at all
It’s kinda like saying “you’re being racist by supporting affirmative action.” It’s like alright rather be racist than have every workplace/university be 99% white because they can afford good schools/prep material…
Just a reminder that this is another distraction tactic, not to say it’s not barbaric but Trump always needs a new story so people stop talking about his unbelievable failures.
