our current situation…

Ok. Between 2009 and now he had 2 terms of his own ahead, a candidate Trump emerging, a candidate Trump winning in an upset, a pandemic, a few years of his VP giving a few years of relative respite, and now Trump Season 2 with a whole new set of awful people in the cabinet. It’s been 17 years since then. Sure, that could have changed course but can you really see exactly what’s going to happen between now and 2043?
Or, if you really want to play the unintended consequences game, how about this? Bill Clinton handles the Elian González situation differently, Gore wins Florida and with that the 2000 election, and George W Bush isn’t in office on 9/11 (if it even happens, considering POTUS was warned that Al Qaeda was planning on using highjacked planes as missiles). Can you even imagine what the world would have been like if Elian’s mother made it on that boat?

Also, how many people really cared about women’s sports in this country before this became an issue?

Things we can eat, or more road salt?

To shreds, you say…
I’ve been using Pollsmax. It’s pretty good. Of course after every election I am reminded that there will always be surprises and I need to stop treating these sites as if they were a crystal ball

In theory, a cabinet-level department can be removed with a bill that says “this entity is no longer a thing”. But capitalism isn’t an entity… You can’t really remove it so much as you set up entirely new policies that would replace it. And that is a much different ball of wax to figure out

I mean, if we knew he was doing it, it wouldn’t be so quiet. Too much of his cabinet (which would need to vote for it) are unwavering Trump sycophants, but maybe there are enough not-Pete-Hegseths that he could pull it off.
But for Vance’s own sake, he may be best off waiting until after midterms/inauguration in case he needs to cut any deals with the next Congress.

…no? He said “stick of butter, bag of peanuts. Butter is about a buck” and then Laura said something

Just before he said “stick of butter”

If we’re going to look at things with a microscope, I didn’t hear “this” stick of butter. I’m sure a box shows up better on camera

I mean, he did say a stick of butter is about a buck. A pound (4 sticks) is a little under $4 for me. So yeah, that checks out. Yeah, you almost always have to buy 4 sticks at a time but that also means you don’t have to buy 4x as often (and butter keeps plenty long in the fridge).
I feel dirty for defending Oz, but this is pretty dumb to get worked up over. The dumbest part is using a unit that’s common for use, but not for purchase. Which… Meh.

What is he supposed to do? He resigned as special protector when Aileen Cannon dismissed one case and Trump got re-elected long before any action could conceivably be done (SCOTUS’s “official acts” ruling didn’t help things either)

Schumer sees AOC coming up in the rear view mirror, that’s all.
Buuut Democrats haven’t held the Senate with a Republican in the White House since Scalia’s death, and it wasn’t until Gorsuch that they only needed 50%+1 to confirm a SCOTUS justice.
But also even if Democrats do take the Senate, rest assured it will be 51 seats, Fetterman supports whoever the fuck Trump nominates, and Vance will break the tie. Unless it’s Ted Cruz who gets nominated, in which case it will be unanimous so they can get rid of him.

I was saying that evidence is used to develop proof.

Ok, but the in quote from the other reply he asserts that they did develop it. So what specifically are they missing that any other criminal case would have had before trial?

One is used to do the other in a trial. It wasn’t done because it didn’t have a chance to. In the meantime it was enough to get an indictment from a grand jury - admittedly a low bar but still something.

Yeah. You realize one is used to do the other?

I do. I don’t dwell on voting points too much, but given that they’re there to look at it would appear as though I’m not alone.
It was a load-bearing ribbon
