  • The Microsoft-focused IT company I’ve effectively replaced was incredibly condescending about our decision to change direction, after their entire stack fell apart during the cyberattack last December.

    I think there are going to be a lot of stubborn, highly certified IT professionals who’ll have to accept that there’s more than one way to build reliable infrastructure.

    Apparently, I shouldn’t be using Proxmox because “it’s only for labs.”

    Meanwhile, I’m building an infrastructure that’s more resilient, easier to recover and designed to keep the business operational even if we’re attacked again. If that means temporarily running critical services on a cluster of ten Dell Wyse thin clients, so be it.

    I’d rather have a flexible, recoverable infrastructure than an expensive stack of enterprise products that looks impressive on paper but falls over when it matters.

    It has been Slackware based since inseption I think just because that’s what fit when it was created.Fedora particually Silverblue and in turn some of the Ublue projects have shown you can create a super stable environment for container based workloads.

    Updates are seemless and targetable a fedora backend gives them an easier switch to podman should docker not be viable in the future.

    From the article it looks like they’re focusing on Faster security updates Better hardware support through the Linux kernel There’s a clear seperation of the base os and the apps,plugins etc that Silverblue/Ublue can offer that Debian couldn’t do as easily and they’d be better off just sticking on Slackware.

  • The irony that a site called 404 doesn’t load for you 😄 here you go op. · Jul 28, 2026 at 1:27 PM The U.S. government has charged Samuel Tunick with allegedly typing in a passcode to wipe his phone before officers could search it. “I hope people understand that the charges against me are meant to intimidate people,” he said. ‘The Government Hopes To Set a Precedent’: An Interview With the Man Charged for Allegedly Wiping His GrapheneOS Phone Images: Samuel Tunick and 404 Media. In charging a man for allegedly typing in a duress password which wiped his privacy-focused GrapheneOS phone, the U.S. government is trying to intimidate other activists from protecting their data and participating in social movements, Samuel Tunick, the man charged, told 404 Media in an interview on Tuesday.

    The case of Tunick, who participated in the Stop Cop City movement in Atlanta, has resonated across privacy and civil liberties circles. 404 Media first broke news of the case in December. Last week, The Guardian reported additional details including from a court hearing in the case. The maximum sentence for the alleged crime is five years in federal prison.

  • Gaming will always take the lead—gamers are usually quick to chase the newest and shiniest things. Bluefin/Aurora adoption takes a bit longer because developers have to adjust their workflows, and there’s still this odd stigma around atomics. People assume you “can’t do things” on an atomic distro that you can on a traditional one, when in reality it’s mostly the same—just a slightly different approach in certain areas. Like with Nix, once it clicks, the pros far outweigh the cons. Personally, Bluefin has made me a more organised and efficient developer.

    I can’t upload the images for some reason but here’s the current numbers for the ublue spins

    • Bazzite: 26k users -> bazzite.json
    • Bluefin: 1.9k users -> bluefin.json
    • Bluefin LTS: 40 users -> bluefin-lts.json
    • Aurora: 1.3k users -> aurora.json
