2·2 months agoIt started happening to me after I degoogled my phone and predictive text no longer cares about sentence syntax. When I see it on a largely anti-google or anti-microsoft space I think that’s a safe bet what’s happening half the time

2·2 months agoGlad to help! I was gatekept from a lot of stuff when I was younger so I’m glad to pass along techniques or pick up new ones. When you discover something by yourself, it can feel pretty transcendent. 🤘

2·2 months agoWell, have you ever seen the website TV Tropes? You can get lost for hours just looking through the different examples of specific plot ideas that make up the entirety of written and visual media. You find a kind of story beat and then some examples and from there you’ll build a vocabulary of how to describe stuff. So when you say, “I really like horror like in The Thing where the monster is our own human body” you can use that to find entire groups of media that’s just like that
There’s also looking at the creators of stuff you enjoy and connecting them to other things. In the music world, musicians often travel from project to project to collaberate on different things. So if you like, say Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello has actually done all kinds of awesome stuff with other groups.

17·2 months agoThis is the answer, OP. Curating your tastes and learning to seek out art based on your values is a skillset that algorithms are attempting to destroy.
You are not a product, engage with art meaningfully like how a person should

politics @lemmy.world•Bernie Sanders urges progressives to vote Democratic in November
31·2 months agoNobody who “abstained in protest” were ever going to vote anyway. That’s not a thing serious people do, those aren’t a voting demographic, it’s just a cope unserious people say to explain why they haven’t gotten their ID to vote or done the bare minimum to register.
DNC people blaming their losses on that are just trying to distract from how their strategy to resist fascism for the last 15 years has been to run aging, Republican-lite, Obama cabinet members and expect the new onslaught of Maga to just compromise with them. They don’t change, they don’t reflect, they don’t reach out to young people, they just capitulate the the worst humans alive and then they blame their own base when they lose to those humans.

5·2 months agoGuys Momela herself has come here to shame us for not voting for her twice. while she failed to capture 20 yr olds and lost in a post-covid blowout to Donald fucking Trump. Now we’re cooked.
Imagine getting utterly dog-walked by a senile pedophile and blaming the people who did vote for you.

1·3 months agoThanks, I’ve never heard of that one 🤘
Edit: okay that was a bitch to set up. But it’s nice to have an alternative for when idm shits the bed like it has lately. And somehow I can actually force parallel downloading on places that restrict it, it’s just not overcoming throttling the same way but that’s fine

1·3 months agoMaybe it’s my internet but the file in question is capped to 1.5 mb/s so there’s no helping that. IDM used to circumvent this by downloading multiple chunks at a time which reduced the amount of time during which bits could be lost during transfer.
Just for good measure I checked my hardware too. Stuff’s definitely being broken when moved at that rate

0·3 months agoReally? I have a 10 GB file redoing right now that ends up with different parts missing every attempt.
IDM used to wrap up the transfer a lot faster by grabbing smaller chunks but they can throttle that now. You just download a file that size with your browser?

Hopefully one day we can face that question without needing a motivated answer. Right now I don’t think the world is ready or can be even a little normal about it
