I get the “maybe God should go back on his promise to Noah” sentiment.
Societally, though, I think we’re still doing better than monarchies and crusades. Even if the lows are pretty disgusting, there are a lot of folks spreading good information and care.
Now, if a bacteria that rendered crude oil unusable without releasing any CO2 in the process got loose, I would breathe a sigh of relief (and be eager to pay extra taxes to help folks with more rapid electrification).

13 / 0.05 = 260
He has $260 Billion?!
Yeah, spread that around. He wasn’t doing more than playing around with Google Glass 10 years ago, coming up with Google (and then doing his best to sabotage it) isn’t worth that by a long shot.

While traditional geothermal power taps heat sources close to the surface, Fervo and its peers are drilling deeper because deeper rock is hotter, opening more opportunities for development […] bringing drilling techniques and technologies from the oil and gas sector to the development of new geothermal resources.
Still not really clear what their tech is or how they got it done so fast.

For a lot of single-issue voters, this kind of calculation is theoretical. For trans people right now, it is not. An anti-trans Democrat in office is a harm. A Republican who is openly, aggressively, legislatively hostile to trans existence is a different order of harm. Both things are true, and genuinely hard to reconcile.
Yeah, that’s an awful choice. I can’t think of a better option than the article presents — name the candidates and their shortcomings/wrongs.

Ranked choice voting so we stop having to pick terrible Democrats. Gaining prevalence in local elections!

What a breath of sanity.

Interesting.
The auditory stimulus used for this study is a 50-millisecond burst of pink noise. Similar to white noise, pink noise contains all sound frequencies audible to the human ear, but the lower pitch frequencies are louder and the higher pitch frequencies are softer. This creates a balanced, gentle sound similar to steady rain or a distant waterfall.
I wonder if this points to sleeping outdoors / in nature. Wind, night insects?

From discernreport.com:

Yeah, looks like corporate taxes could be bigger.
Or health could be more efficient, but not smaller.
Or an ultra-millionaire wealth tax.

Ugh, is there no part of the USA not founded on slavery and genocide?

The headline sounds wrong to me — it’s not that shaking babies is not dangerous (that’s not mentioned one way or the other), it’s that evidence used in courts to identify SBS is being found invalid, exonerating some cases that sound like heartbreaking miscarriages of justice.

Same city where the school superintendent was embezzling and Colombia Gas exploded many houses.
But also home of the 1912 Bread and Roses strike.

Hopefully. But there are parts of the climate that are delicately balanced and may suddenly cut loose, like potential Gulf stream collapse.

Plug for https://fairvote.org/ . We have a long way before ranked choice voting gets to federal elections, but many local elections are using it now and once people are familiar with it we can hopefully push for more far -reaching adoption.

Ah right, this was BMW too:
For the past few years, BMW has behaved in a way that seems to treat their buyers as targets for more revenue over everything else. Remember all their subscription bullshit? People hated that, and worked around it, and eventually BMW had to dial that back, because having a subscription for heated seats makes people want to riot.
So, definitely on the “don’t even consider” list.

Have these people never met children?
I learned Ansible for this purpose, so all the modified configs live in a git repo. I still get lazy and modify some things directly (looking at you Minecraft plugins) but a lot of it is pretty easy to set up via IaC.

So, about $2M over 5 years. I wonder how far that would have gone for better sanitation on the farms.

OK I won’t read to much from a mouse model experiment yet but this is amazing:
members of the research team built something that had not previously existed: a mouse model of weightlifting.
In this model, mice lived in specially designed cages where food was accessed through a hinged, weighted lid. To eat, the mice had to lift the lid while wearing a small shoulder collar, causing a squat-like movement that engaged the muscle contractions people use during resistance exercise. The load was gradually increased over several days, mimicking progressive strength training.
“You know what I want to research? Mice doing squats.”
Yeah, why would you waste time with these instead of Gimp, OpenOffice, etc? Except for the clicks.
