  • Seeing as you have an Nvidia card, I’d caution against Ubuntu. People talk about how “stable” it is, but it’ll break on it’s own even if you don’t try to update it, and it’s all because of Nvidia drivers.

I recommend getting a distro that has the Nvidia drivers baked it, which mostly narrows it down to Bazzite, Nobara, CachyOS, or Pop!OS.

I’m personally not a fan of Pop! since it’s based on Debian.

I personally use Nobara right now since it’s essentially Bazzite if it weren’t immutable. It’s OK. It does some things well and has some headaches.

I recently had to dual-boot CachyOS alongside Nobara. I haven’t had much time to tinker with it, but it’s definitely different. But one big benefit to Cachy is that you can pick whatever desktop environment and bootloaders you want. Just pick the correspondjng option in the installer.

At the end of the day, Bazzite, Nobara, and Cachy all have the same gaming-focussed system optimizations. It just boils down to specifics from there

  • They really suck to use in Firefox

In Chromium browsers you get “Open tab in group” in the context menu when you tap & hold a link, which makes a tab group if your current tab didn’t already exist in one, then add the link as a new tab in the group.

In Firefox, you don’t get that option in the drop down menu. You can only open a new, completely separate tab. To make a tab group, you have to manually combine 2 tabs, and if you want to add tabs to the group you have to make them outside of the group first and add manually.

Also, in Firefox you can’t remove tabs from a group without closing the tab.

After getting feedback and suggestions on how to make tab groups worthwhile, they promised to add the fixes in either 155 or 156. It’s looking like we’ll have to wait until after 159 for the fixes.

And I’m already not a big fan of Mozilla at the moment. I recently switched phones and found out that they only let you sync bookmarks between devices if you have an account with them and sign in.

Brave browser doesn’t require a sign in for sync. They let you sync E2EE’d by connecting individual devices without an account similar to Syncthing
