61·19 days agoSo… how are yall storing your photos?
Offline server?
Proton Drive? I am skeptical about this one. I know Proton is more secure on paper. But it is like going from 1 walled garden to another.
Asking because right now we are paying for Google One 2TB, which is shared between my families. We have… A LOT of photos (some videos but mostly photos).

Privacy@lemmy.ml•OpenAI steals Human Mathematicians work to solve a Millenium Problem
20·2 months agothese news site really need to research or write better.
No, Navier Stokes was not “solved”. We have been using numerical methods to solve these equations approximtely since forever. The exact analytical solutions that exist for special cases are also studied; most often, these are used as baseline for comparison against new theory , new experimental results and new computer simulations. So, we have been “solving” Navier Stokes.
What OpenAI manages to achieve is answering a very specific problem relate to Navier Stoke (sorry for hand waving, not a pure math major). It is something like: given an initial flow condition, does the Navier Stoke equation predict this flow field to blow up or it stays smooth for some finite time? Result: OpenAI manages to come up with a case where the solution blow up.
Mathematically, i bet some math geniuses can expand on this finding as like a “special property” of the Navier Stoke equations.
So no we are still far solving the whole equation analytically.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Unlocking LUKS with NitroKey/Yubikey: FIDO2, HMAC-SHA1, or OpenPGP?English
4·3 months agoi use a yubikey and still have the ability to type my LUKs password in. Yubikey is just more convenience: plug in and it auto type the password field. On Fedora this means it populates the field with asterisks. Still, i think using password is the best method.
With that said, i believe a much better secure layer is something similar to what Novacustoms, Purism attempt to do: verify if somebody else not you try to access the laptop. So far i know of only Dasharo boot and the stuff from Purism that can do these…
So the layout is: Boot verification -> LUKs-> your data
Or if you have the juices and powers: Boot verification -> LUKS -> QuebeOS dom0 -> choose your Quebess.

politics @lemmy.world•Suburban St Louis County Executive Calls for the Hanging of Dr. Fauci
19·3 months agothese motherfuckers and their fam and friends are now alive because of him. Nobody wants to acknowledge that cuz too coward.
my memories of the covid years are hazy. Yeh we were stuck in doors and so months and days seemed squashed together.
But i still remember some details:
- when covid broke out early 2020 after that fire in Australia, Dr Fauci and the covid taskforce recommended to wash hands and mask up.
=> fox and the republicunts immediately flood the news with stuff like guys wearing mask die because they csnt breath, or their typical narrative “what covid its just a flu”
- when things got pretty serious in US, i remember around May 2020. Remember that cruise ship and people were guarantined? Yeh we were recommended to stay home and avoid public places
==> holy shit, i remember very large crowds in LA carrying maga signs saying shit like “covid from china not us, we from us so we safe”…The fox news cunts were pushing stuff like “dont stay home cuz unconstitutional lol, this is US not china communist lol”
==> later in the years we had very large spikes, what did these maga pussies do? They flooded the streets of michigan, demanding to hang the gov Gretchen Whitmer.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Microsoft admits Windows 11 has a GDID tracker with no off switch, first documented publicly in an FBI hacker complaint
6·4 months agothe fucked up thing is this GDID thing apparently also show up for VM. So that would mean any VM and even a Quebe?
Fuck microsoft

For me, US specific sites are tricky. As in, if you are overseas, you cannot access them due to security reasons. For example; DMV sites. You need to use a VPN and choose a US server to access. Those sites usually always have ID verifications… and theres no way around them
I dont use services you listed, but i face similar ID verifications on similar sites. What i did: switch VPN to another countries. Sometimes it works though.
