flatpak run would like a word with you. You can easily just alias to that.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can you run multiple servers on one machine (e.g. Raspberry Pi)?English
4·12 days agoIf the machine has enough power (which for a Pi is heavily varying between generations), yes, you absolutely can! Look into something like Docker Compose (or even running NixOS).

uname -srpio.
Maybe it’s not the EU as a whole? But interestingly, your article says that FLOSS is exempt from these rules, which is great!
And the GPL has less legal garbage? One of the goals of the EUPL was that it can be understood by laymen, which doesn’t really hold true for the GPL. Those “simple” licenses like the MIT license don’t work in the EU btw, since you cannot completely renounce liability or copyright.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Massive funding for Linux projects, Nintendo nukes emulation, Graphene Comes to more phones - The Linux Experiment
10·1 month agoNotch’s Bugatti is far less likely to spontaneously combust (because it was made by professionals, not AI), and if it did, it wouldn’t affect as many people. Omarchy claims to be an easy version of Arch, when in reality, it’s just doing what every beginner would be doing, including all of the accidental security holes, and then adds some more weakpoints through the unchecked shell scripts.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Patches Provide For Much Faster In-Kernel Zstd Due To Embarrassingly Bad Inefficiency
24·1 month agoLinus has already chimed in, and wants Zstd to just use the standard way of checking for CPU features instead of rolling their own. Apparently, that would be even faster, compiling to a single jump instruction.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are the worst distro-specific problems you have faced?
1·2 months agoThe
nixos-unstablechannel actually does ensure a minimum set of required packages work: Those that would prevent you from booting. The compiling-from-source is because Hydra (the binary cache) only starts building once a package appears innixpkgs-unstable, and if it immediately proceeds intonixos-unstable, or one of its dependencies is different there, that build won’t be finished yet.release-and versionednixos-don’t have that problem, as they have a merge freeze, and are mostly fast-forwarded along unstable. What would be good is a mechanism for Hydra to tell you “I tried to build this derivation, and it failed.” For this, Nix first needs to store build failure, and since store paths are input-addressed by default, you can also skip builds that will certainly still fail.

Windows is still on Windows 11, unless you meant update numbers, which don’t matter anymore, anyway. However, many Linux distros, like Ubuntu and NixOS, use this versioning scheme.
