  • Yes, plans that don’t work out can retroactively be called the wrong decision because they failed. Of fucking course they can. The alternative is attempting the same thing over and over but expecting a different result, which is a popular description of insanity. You’re ridiculing the fundamental process of learning and growth and seeming proud of it because you think its helping you win an argument. That might honestly be the dumbest thing I’ve seen someone do.

I have no interest in discussing things with someone who would rather double down with insane ideas then admit they were wrong.

  • I agree with most of what you said. However, I find it odd that you called it “one of the most important cases in American history” but also seem to be defending their decision to treat it much like any other case.

Trump is the best example there is that norms and precedent don’t mean much. He loves using the system against his opponents and Smith didn’t fight back against that at all. Again, he should have expected Trump’s deny and delay tactics and took some action.

Fighting an opponent who uses the rules against you requires being creative with the rules. Instead of the bold action we needed we got timid deference to procedure. If Biden and Garland were the hold up then stand in front of the media and say that directly to the world. Force them to either get off their ass or fire you. Anything less is equivalent to letting Trump run out the clock, which is exactly what happened.

He’s proving right now that he knows how to do this, which is why it’s so frustrating that he didn’t do it when it might have mattered.

  • This is exactly what I’ve been saying since Talarico came on the scene. The voters are there if he can pierce the bubble and reach them, but that’s the hardest part. That’s exactly why his interview with Kimmel is on YouTube instead of regular cable.

Many of the kinds of people he’s appealing to don’t follow politics at all. They vote R because they perceive the people around them to be doing it too. He doesn’t need to convince all Christians in Texas to vote for him. He just needs to get some of them having the conversation. That is enough to shake things up in this election.

If he manages to make his case in a compelling enough way to reach voters in other states then the GOP is absolutely fucked. Low information Christian voters are the foundation of the party. There aren’t enough Nazis in America to replace them if the GOP loses a double digit percentage of them.

  • please tell me they’re prioritizing minimizing the existential cost of the climate catastrophe over the $ cost

I’m sure you know that’s not the case. It’s always about the money.

That said, I would guess that these function similarly to hybrid car engines. Electric motors are better at providing a quick or variable torque rsponse and gas engines are most efficient running at a constant RPM. Put those properties together and you get an electric motor designed for takeoff and large altitude changes, and a gas motor designed for maintaining cruising speed.

Essentially, the exact opposite of what you wanted.
