Here is Mozilla saying that Firefox does not support the API that Graphene uses to flash devices. I’m not sure how you can get more definitive than that.

For example, want to use the GrapheneOS web installer? You need a Chromium-based browser.
This is because Firefox does not support WebUSB. It is not currently possible to make a version of the Graphene web installer that supports Firefox. Graphene doesn’t get a say in the matter.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•would you wait for the Grapheneos-Motorola phone or buy a new pixel now?English
1·2 months agoI’m sitting on my Pixel 8 until I can compare the Moto Graphene phone and the next Fairphone. If I’m going to get subpar performance relative to Apple and Qualcomm, I’m going to at least get a removable battery in exchange. I want wired video out, which disqualifies the Fairphone 6.

They aren’t. They use something like Wine to translate the apps.

1·3 months agoCorrect. The only programs you need to run are to format the drive, download the files, and extract the files. All of those can be done on a phone, but they’re easier on a Mac.

4·3 months agoOh, I was joking, since most distros only have “bloat” insofar as it makes the experience easier but may be unnecessary for more experienced users, nothing to the degree of Windows adware. I use KDE neon because I want APT and KDE and needed kernel 6.08 before Debian had it.

1·3 months agoThe Linux one just links you to a more minimal distro, I take it? Ubuntu to Debian/Fedora to Arch to Gentoo to LFS?
I can’t find the source, but Google’s LLM summary says it’s because of potential security issues, which sounds plausible.
