most of the “ethics” are technology limitations, or simply issues inherent to capitalism. and by the way, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, the same morals arise when you interact with anything that the market touches. do you think your goods are produced fair and square? do you even know the amounts of labour theft that occurred for you to wipe yo ass with a toilet paper? if you gon tell me then that you oppose all that too. good, you’re a comrade of mine and a marxist it seems even tho you dont know. but now that you hold that position, you need to understand is capital u against, not some tech.

31·7 hours agohey, this looks great! i have some health issues on my tendons so anything that takes time away from typing helps me with the pain. i will definitely try this out!

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds shares his thoughts on Anti-AI coding rules
6·10 hours agoliterally me, i started using ai to help me self host shit. i now know how to use docker and podman essentially even without AI. i’ve been wanting to do that for years but never had anyone to help me and it felt too overwhelming to me. similarly i now have some dotfiles set and in general i have a better system. specially for a lot of shit i know how to do but it’s fucking boring to do.

95·14 hours agoyou clearly are covering your ears while he talks. your argument against AI is actually an argument against closed models, that’s the issue. yes, open models aren’t as powerful as closed ones currently but it’s simply a limitation of its time. so the issue is not about AI again, but about some tangential to AI.
you probably have similar issue regarding technology limits during this time such as: power/water consumption, some bogus rant about copyrights (i thought open source people were against copyright and in favour of copyleft, but ok?), usage in military shit, some superficial technophobic stance about how AI can generate images about people, etc. so please, if you can provide a single argument against AI, do so.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux kernel devs drop obligatory confession of AI tool usage
41·20 hours agoAnd calculators can’t be tweaked to subtly change messaging to push a narrative, or a product, or whatever.
the internet does the same! so TV! they can do the same with books! i think we should burn them, what do you think?
Calculators didn’t steal the work of all humanity to try to put them out of a job.
ai didn’t do that either, it was capitalists. and as far as i know its a good thing that they “steal jobs” having less jobs means you can play more. except under capitalism. oh, so it seems you’re complaining about capitalism here, ok, let’s move on.
Calculators don’t really get used for scams by cloning people’s voices.
ok, away with e-mail, i got an e-mail that was clearly a scam a couple of weeks ago.
Could go on and on how calculators and LLMs are different.
yes, you could. the issue is that you’re not complaining about AI, you’re complaining about tangential stuff to ai, most of which are not AI directly or are temporary shit that can be modified. sure, water issue. that changes. processing power. that can be more efficient and it will be. so fucking please complain about AI.

hey, thanks a lot that you liked it! do you mean having cantonese instead of the kanji widget or as a language for the extension? i also been working on it and making it a self hosted app which should make things a bit faster and what not, although it requires installation. this version should have a few more niceties like being able to do crazier setups and stuff. this is how it currently looks:

12·17 days agowhat happens when these companies are seized by the people? you are opposing a company, that’s fine, but another thing is opposing the technology, built by workers and expropriated by the bourgeoisie. who owned the rail companies? what kind of people pushed for rail infrastructure?
one day techonology will advance and it will not require vast ammounts of water, energy to run these things, they will be owned and trained by the people. what will be your opposition to it then? you’re literally getting butthurt over a calculator bro, take it easy.

eating chocolate isn’t much different from using ai in terms of the ethics behind you being able to consume it. i assume you want to stop chocolate production instead of ensuring it can be produced in ethical terms under socialism.
