  • revolutionary documentary techniques

Because the format was like two decades old, you couldn’t solve basic problems without revolutionizing everything

defining the visual language of the Third Reich

Using her unlimited budget to recreate visual language that painters had developed over hundreds of years to create marketing material for an organization that existed for less time than the Star Wars franchise

the most famous female director of the century

Yeah there were a lot of morons with bad opinions in that time period

sure, she could have asked one of the gentlemen to do it for her I guess.

Actually I don’t think that was her call, but either way my point is that a filmmaker of any of the genders who had the kind of budget and set control that she had at that point in time in filmmaking couldn’t help but innovate just because so few movies have been made before

  • “The MAGA folks took from the 2024 election that this was a great issue for them, that it was one that united their base and made Democrats uncomfortable,” Erickson said. “And that was all true at that moment, but now they’re going way beyond any concerns the public had.”

Like, I want to just take the win, but a) it was only “true at that moment” because Democratic moderates like Third Way got uncomfortable and made the whole party fumble our response to this, b) Third Way getting on the right side of this issue doesn’t stop the harm Amy Acton and Mary Peltola and other anti-trans Dems are out there doing on the campaign trail now, if they really care about the long term health of the Democratic party they need to be doing more to pressure those campaigns to do better

  • If we want to talk stupid we really need to talk about the Biden administration’s policy and politics. Their big marquee infrastructure bill basically just put money into state governments and for profit companies without requiring them to make any changes to how they had been doing business, while at the same time they knifed households in the back by cutting stimulus checks and support for expanded unemployment benefits. Maybe some of that stuff could have eventually trickled down in some way, but the fact that they were basically doing Reaganomics was really just a giant middle finger to their base in pursuit of Republican votes that never came in.

  • Do Americans believe that incumbents have an advantage because voters are too stupid to choose?

The most widespread and insidious propaganda in America is “everyone but you and me are idiots.” Like,

Why did that lawmaker you thought you supported just say something stupid? Oh, they don’t really mean it, they’ve just got to appeal to all the idiots out there.

Why did the company take useful features out of their product? They had to dumb it down for all the idiots out there.

Want to know why the world isn’t a better place? It’s not because I make so much money off of its suffering, it’s because there’s just too many idiots out there.

So, yes, I believe the average American voter has been brainwashed into thinking the average American voter is too stupid to choose, and that’s at least part of the reason it’s so hard to get people to care about democracy and tyranny and stuff like that.
