I recommend Trisquel. Unlike most GNU/Linux distros, it’s 100% free.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Need Help Running Apps on DeGoogled Phone
4·21 days agoGoogle Play Services or Store? If it’s Services, you could make an exception and keep it, because many third party apps need it to work. I kept it and removed all the other Google apps. So they get no ad revenue from me.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Do there exist any open-source android clients for whatsapp?
2·1 month agoI got you, I’m sorry for that. Currently, there are only web wrappers, like ZapZap. There have been clients, but when Meta finds them, it will ban you and try to block the app.
I have three browsers (all Firefox-based): 1) Javascript OFF; 2) LibreJS and JShelter addons; 3) Default. Ans this is the priority when accessing websites.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Do there exist any open-source android clients for whatsapp?
4·1 month agoBrother, don’t use Whatsapp. It’s a privacy nightmare. It stores your messages unencrypted on Google/Apple servers.
First time hearing about this license. This is free, too. So good job for changing it!
Agree, a 100% free distro should be the default in schools. And free programs. No proprietary app should exist on computers.
I would use VPN, but it makes my Bitcoin Node stop receiving incoming connections.
If you want a Free Software Foundation recommend distro, I would say Trisquel or PureOS (if you don’t need wi-fi). Or Linux Mint. Or Debian with Mate or Cinnamon desktop environment.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•would you wait for the Grapheneos-Motorola phone or buy a new pixel now?
10·2 months agoI will wait for Motorola.
In 2027, Motorola will realease a phone with GrapheneOS preinstalled. So no Google phone.
Mailo, 1€/20GB.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•How do you deal with WhatsApp monopoly?
0·2 months agoSMS is only text. Pictures and videos are MMS which, in many countries, are not configured by default, are not included in plans and cost a lot, around 0.20€/MMS.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•How do you deal with WhatsApp monopoly?
5·2 months agoI don’t have Whatsapp and I will never use it. If people don’t want to use Signal, Telegram, XMPP, Matrix, SimpleX, or Delta Chat, we will talk over RCS/SMS.

2·3 months agoI use Molly-FOSS from F-droid.

Disable JS in your browser. Or at least use LibreJS extension. And use uBlock origin.
