Eh. I use Usenet and honestly the reliability sucks. I almost never successfully get quality media from there. It’s either missing too many blocks, doesn’t exist, or is grossly mislabeled.

It’s reasonable to be annoyed by this.
I’ve built automatic tools within client software that handle file types and basic security better than this, < 5 years into my career as an inexperienced dev.
It’s crazy that not only is executable downloading not blocked by default for a media downloader, but as fast as I can tell it’s not even doing magic bytes based format detection…?

Wait, wtf, this isn’t on by default??

I have a literal HDD in a pelican case.
I plug it into my NAS periodically, clone over to it, scrub for bit rot, put it back in the case and drop it at my BILs.
Plenty good enough.
It was removed from /c/technology because /c/technology isn’t for discussing, learning about, or posting about technology. It’s for posting about big tech companies, tech adjacent or non-tech news, politics, and their CEOs.
It’s the Lemmy equivalent of reddits. It’s pretty much a pile of crap.

Well “solved” is a bit of a weird way to say it. Was it proven as true, or was it disproven? Both of those change things in different ways.
Proven true that it is a stable formula, then that’s cool, and we know that issues with fluid simulations based off of that are a software and compute problem.
If it was disproven, then we learn precisely under what specific conditions nature becomes mathematically unpredictable, and then we can start developing different and better models.

I mean, that’s probably part of the point

Crazy that you need an API key to access data from private entities for data that is publicly funded.

Yeah, it should inflate to 15TB or more I think
Any sort of breathplay to the point of unconsciousness is incredibly dangerous and unsafe.
