My primary monitoring system is Beszel, but since I just migrated from VMs to LXCs it can’t properly see the memory/CPU usage, so it just checks for disk usage and liveliness. Home assistant with Proxmox & Dockhand integrations gives me the rest of my monitoring needs.

All of my alerts go to Apprise, which sends it to Home Assistant. Home assistant allows me to either have silent notifications in the app I can look at later, or send as a push notification to my phone.

2·17 days agoI’ve never used ActualBudget, but their docs have a slightly different caddy example config:
budget.example.org { encode gzip zstd reverse_proxy actual_server:5006 }```

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Can't access some services behind reverse proxy (Solved)English
3·17 days agoThis is the right approach, I’ve had several services require extra bits in the caddy config such as:
reverse_proxy 192.168.50.6:8006 { transport http { tls_insecure_skip_verify } }I would do a search for “your service & caddy”, someone probably has ran into the same issue.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Old laptop with non-funtional display... What do I turn it intoEnglish
3·19 days agoI also had an old unused laptop with a broken hinge, so I just removed the entire top half of it! My “topless” laptop now runs my Proxmox Backup Server. If your laptop supports it, you could also look into keeping the battery in and just limiting the charging so it isn’t always at 100%, that way you have a buffer if the power input fails or the power goes out briefly.
I second Beszel, fantastic monitoring platform!

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-Hosting Survey 2026: What are your favorite self-hosted apps?English
5·25 days agoSelf-Hoster 🏡
- Fleet: 2–3 devices · 11–20 TB
- Motivation: Independence from Big Tech & subscriptions, Privacy & data ownership, Fun / the hobby itself
- My MVPs: Immich, Navidrome, Dockhand, Proxmox VE, Caddy
It depends on what I’m doing I suppose. I run my main VM on Proxmox, so I mainly use its web interface for any VM work. For all the containers within, I’ve been really loving Dockhand lately, it’s just as easy to use as Portainer, it even checks for updates for me AND gives me a link for the release notes so I can decide whether to upgrade or not.
Most other things like file transfers or editing my Caddyfile I do through SSH. Can’t beat simplicity sometimes!
I used this a few months ago and it worked fantastically, uploaded like 800G worth of photos!

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Good resources for setting up a domain name to a local Caddy instanceEnglish
1·2 months agoI’ll add on to this fantastic comment, this is exactly what I do. I use the DNS challenge with a domain I purchased to point to a private IP (my caddy server). I probably do it a bit inefficiently, but I literally have a dns entry for every subdomain of mine and have a separate caddy section for each of them for https. I’ll give an example of a simple entry that uses namecheap as the domain/dns provider:
https://subdomain.domain.net/ { tls { dns namecheap { api_key APIKEY user username api_endpoint https://api.namecheap.com/xml.response client_ip 1.1.1.1 } } reverse_proxy 192.168.1.1:1234 } ``` You’ll probably have a different tls section for your specific domain/dns, and of course your reverse proxy will sometimes require additional config items.
I’ve had an eventful week, I setup a laptop as a Proxmox Backup Server, moved my VMs storage to my NAS so I could reconfigure the Proxmox server’s local LVM, and now I have qocw2 storage instead of raw disk files! It was super stressful, but seeing my incremental backups take less than 5 minutes was sooo worth it.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Backing up Proxmox Backup ServerEnglish
3·3 months agoAlso, you might want to put the backups in a dedicated partition or drive if you can, so you’d just have to reinstall pbs in case it get bad.
Yea that’s the main plan, the laptop would hold the PBS system, but all backups would go straight to the NAS. if the laptop dies I can just find something else to put PBS on with minimal hassle.

1·7 months agoI went with a SciFi ship theme, my main server is VMS-HORIZON (Virtual Machine Ship). The VMs have ship component names like AUDIO-CORE (navidrome) and VISUAL-CORE (Immich).
My Raspberry Pi is named ORBITER, like a orbiting shuttle/satellite, and the VM it has is called BEACON (for Gotify)
If you run Proxmox and Proxmox Backup Server, I actually JUST found a better product for my needs, Pulse
My only problem with Beszel is that it doesn’t know about LXCs within Proxmox, so I can’t see if there are CPU/memory issues happening within them. Pulse integrates directly and can see all of it!
If you don’t run LXCs within Proxmox, I’d say stick with Beszel.
