  • I agree with most of what you are saying and am also looking for an excuse to switch to a BSD. BUT:

    Re: Wayland

It doesn’t sound “hard to refuse” at all, unless you are also sticking with the big two DEs and no forks. For context I have done both X11 and Wayland installations based purely on whichever runs better on any given machine with some tweaking. Wayland runs amazing on new 3D-only GPUs, which is what it was designed around. Although I don’t have any bar at all, I just use sway with the bar removed because that’s what I’m used to. And because all bars I could find either aren’t maintained anymore, suck at efficiency or suck at running without a bunch of config file editing. Which is kind of a fault of the time frame when Wayland was popularized and the leadership for adjacent standards rather than the original protocol design. And it’s also not a fault of the base protocol that virtually all implementations ended up using lots of “Linuxisms” like libinput which require all sorts of weird hacks to run on other systems. Maybe in the near future this will be better considering the whole Linux “left opposition” situation replaying in the age of LLMs.

    Re: Linux phones

They suck because it’s an extremely niche category of people who can port, consider Android too bad and yet don’t consider most of the devices themselves bad. They are amazing from recycling and pocket computing standpoints, but there are even less people thinking this rationally about it, unfortunately.

Also, “available in OS but not Flathub” that’s a good thing, no? You are also in an extremely niche category of people who are anti-systemd, anti-Wayland yet pro-Flatpak.

    Re: RedoxOS

Was it the Rust one? If so, “not written by an RNG machine” makes little sense given that Rust tooling itself is tainted.

  • There was “Arch Linux ARM” (“ALARM”) for a while but all updates that happen to it currently are automations. Stuff breaks more and more from time to time and the maintainer is unresponsive. I am assuming that’s why the Asahi project moved to Fedora. And a new proposition inside of Arch Linux allows a “port” to be made but nobody submitted anything. It needs 2 maintainers minimum.

Anyways, so what I am assuming happened is that they just did their own port and never released the build scripts, because of course they would.

From what I’ve heard, only a small “base” is actually running natively and FEX has it’s root set to a specific variant of the “Steam Linux Runtime” (you know, like when you install something on Steam it installs that?) fit to run Steam itself rather than games, but that’s just my hypothesis.

  • that doesn’t mean ‘everything’

    I said basically.

Neither does it mean that the majority mode of production of the world will be capitalism tomorrow.

Wanna bet? I close my eyes, sleep, wake up sometime (hopefully) then check.

    Christiania

Intentional anarcho-communistic commune somewhere in the middle of Denmark. Denmark is fine with it because it’s making tourist money. It’s like a cool fact, like “did you know there’s a place where people avoid using money”. Obviously, they go out sometimes. Apart from that, stuff done there that is only “ethical outside of capitalism” isn’t ethical for the outside world. If someone does vibecoding there and considers it ethical for some reason but not outside (like the de facto lack of enforcement for intellectual property because it’s no longer needed), people outside still can’t use the work ethically. From what I’ve heard, they aren’t even really good with computers there, and I am not aware of any attempts to make their own.

can only be trained by data harvesting corporations

What is the problem here? The data-harvesting part or the corporations part?

Both? Some people don’t want data harvesting yet it’s done. The CEO gets capital, so do investment companies and maybe some client companies.

EDIT: even if the electricity is sourced “ethically” (no), the compute itself is attributing to climate change.
