I’ve hardened my iPhone a year ago.

I got rid of it!

Got rid of all US services I was still using.

Started self hosting all my stuff.

Switched to Graphene OS.

Mullvad and iVPN both allow this with their multihop settings.

Also VPN:

Not running all their servers on the infrastructure provided by a single provider.

I find it very concerning that almost all VPNs use mostlyM247 as their server providers.

This right here!

Ever read the ToS of a streaming service in detail? Even if you subscribe to the premium ad free plan you agree to let them profile your habits and sell those to others for advertising purposes, etc.

I have signal-cli set up on my home assistant and use that for notifications from home.assistant as well as uptime kuma, etc.

Just buy a prepaid sim in the Netherlands, Czechia, UK or Finland. Neither of them have any registration requirements and most prepaid cards from those countries have EU roaming included, even in the UK.

You don’t even need to add a payment method, it can be all made up info

You don’t need one, you just need to create an apple id on a computer if you don’t have any other apple devices. That computer can run Linux or any other OS.

Apple TV is the best choice currently imho.

It does not bombard you with ads and the tracking is not as bad as Google and Amazon.

To avoid virus disconnect machine from internet completely. Problem solved.

Most schools in the US use gmail as their in house email, even if you get a purdue.edu address the interface and backend is all gmail.

Don’t use youtube if you care about your privacy.

Some have esims and 4/5g modules installed already for “telemetry”.

Regular phone calls can be intercepted by state actors and police if they have a warrant (or even without one if you live in Russia, or similar countries).

Phone calls on Signal are encrypted and cannot be intercepted unless one of the parties has a backdoor on their phone, which is the modi operandi of the authorities if they want to intercept such calls.

So 95% of people, that checks out actually.

In my case: It’s youtube / google, instant ignore.

You can even install from another android phone if it runs a recent version of chrome.

Installing Graphene OS on a Pixel device is basically idiot proof and done in less than 20 minutes. All you need is a chromium based browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Ungoogled Chromium, etc.) and a USB cable. That’s it.

No voodoo required, the tutorial is easier than following along a recepie for chicken pot pie. If you can read you can install Graphene OS, that’s literally the sole prerequisite.

I bought a dutch sim card (no registration) and a used android phone thats not linked to me to activate it. Then I made an whatsapp account with that number and I am only accessing it via whatsapp web on my graphene OS phone on a special profile with no acceas to my contacts. That profile also uses a dutch mullvad vpn server thats always on.

I am not dutch and don’t live in the Netherlands.
