Straight newrepublic link for me, either OP changed this within 12 minutes of your comment before I loaded the page, or something weird is going on for you, maybe some sort of caching and you got an older version of the post? Which client do you use?

The problem is that, legally speaking, the lower receiver is the gun. So you can buy all the other parts online with no background check etc.
Makes you wonder if there’s a more sensible way to classify things legally… Probably not.

He loses if he loses his majority in congress. If he keeps it, he wins. Simple enough.

Super artificial intelligence

Unlike boomers, welfare recipients do not own 51-52% of the country.

The 1% owns a bit over 30% of the country’s wealth, people over 55 own over 70%. Billionaires are but a symptom of an even bigger problem.

They don’t care about some imaginary threat of immigrants or trans children playing sports when they can’t afford to drive to the grocery store.
Well but that’s all Biden’s fault according to the stickers so why wouldn’t they vote for Trump’s party who is working their darndest to solve the mess Biden got America into with Iran and fuel prices?

It’s not as one-sided as that comment makes it seem (see my reply to them). Many corporations do contribute back or fund development, especially since it’s easier and cheaper to do that than to maintain a hard fork for all their changes. Hell, with Linux, despite GPL, they could still run a bunch of proprietary code on your device through modules since those don’t have to be compiled into the kernel and thus aren’t bound by the kernel’s GPL.
With something like a video game console, if your whole operating system is easy to replicate, that makes it much easier for someone to build a copycat OS that lets anyone run that console’s games on non-sanctioned hardware. Wouldn’t need an emulator if you just straight up get the whole OS running on wholly different hardware and modify it to your liking easily and you could probably skirt copy protection too. Hell, it would be GREAT for us consumers. Not so great, however, for companies that spend tens or hundreds of millions developing a new console hoping it will sell tens of millions of units to pay off (and then get a cut on the games themselves).
Instead, we’ve arrived at a sort of hybrid model, where companies contribute to the development of things that aren’t specific to their hardware or whatever they believe their advantage to be, while contributing to things that help everyone, but won’t reveal their “secret sauce”.

Release engineering team lead at FreeBSD commented on reddit that Sony would actually fund a bunch of development work that went into FreeBSD proper rather than just their fork, but do it super under the radar (mostly because they don’t want competitors knowing what they’re up to in future versions, particularly in terms of hardware support). Netflix contributes tons to BSD and uses it not because of the license but because of the networking stack, as they wouldn’t have to disclose shit if they did run Linux, it’s all on their servers. Apple funded development of LLVM (which many other large corporations have also contributed to).
Source on the Sony and Netflix part, can’t link directly to the comment because new reddit ui sucks and I can’t access old without logging in anymore

Yes, we would like to buy one (1) F-35, please and thank you

Bet there’s going to be a middle east tour now. Gotta hit Israel, UAE, Saudi lol

They didn’t fabricate the attack… But they did knowingly allow it to happen to get casus belli. Bibi was notified at least a week in advance that Hamas was planning something big.

I’m sure someone who specializes in hacking cars could get much deeper in this BYD.
And every other modern car. Picking BYD for this seems very, very slanted.

You know, I haven’t seen anyone hack a Plymouth either. Curious.

Did you use the phone at all? 2 days of idling, to me, implies never turning on the screen or opening any apps

It’s great for libraries. Less so for applications.

Monster for staying married after already having kids or monster for marrying? The Vance of the early-mid 2010s was very different before the Thiel money kicked in. He compared Trump to Hitler.
He was very easily bought though.

If it works for you, that’s great, for me it sits exactly where it makes zero sense to get. My PC is slightly more powerful so for gaming, it would be inferior. But it’s too expensive just for a HTPC. Something either much more powerful (that could also run local LLMs), or significantly cheaper, would make more sense for me. I’m now eyeing used miniPCs, but I’ll have to see if some of the cheap ones can handle 4k decoding.
No idea on lead level, but violent crime has mostly stayed fairly level now, property crime is way down. Something to consider is that rapes are up quite a bit, starting around the time #MeToo went viral. Which IMO makes sense, as more women found the courage to speak out.
