More interesting example: people use Firefox despite Google being main donator. I know it’s more complicated, but yeah, Mozilla wouldn’t survive otherwise.

6·1 month agoThe law states: “A person, firm, association, corporation, campaign, committee, or organization that distributes or publishes any political communication that was produced by or includes materially deceptive media and has actual knowledge that it is materially deceptive shall be required to disclose this use.” The law requires a disclosure displayed directly on the media in an easily readable font saying, “This (image, video, or audio) has been manipulated.”
I’m surprised purposefully misleading content is not just plain illegal. Not labeling manipulated content is one thing, misleading the public with real looking media is another.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•what to do with your phone on nternational travel?
11·1 month ago… or most other places. Nobody ever wanted to even see my phone.
Most questions I’ve been asked ever was the few times I went to the US in the past.
The US immigration officers want to know who picks you up, what you do, ask details about your work, random shit. I had to explain to one details about a wedding I was going to attend. Another wanted to know details about the VR devices I worked with.
Other countries at most ask profession, duration of stay and address in the country. I’ve been to countless countries on every continent except Antarctica. Your mileage may vary of course because discrimination against certain passport holders is real.

Right… how stupid do you need to be to still believe this is about immigration?

1·2 months agoNixon won because she successfully organized local, black communities in Florida. Her popularity didn’t come from association with national figures or politician but local ground work and Florida’s disenfranchisement campaign of its black citizens.
So for once Piker with his “young men” demographic just didn’t matter.
He’s a fan of hers as she’s anti-Israel and a DSA member, but that’s about it. CBS was completely off base on this one.

26·2 months agoI never see leftists embrace Sharia-like rules or laws. The only ‘fuzzy’ thing is headscarves that seem to be understood as both an expression of religion and an instrument of oppression. Besides this contradictory feature I don’t see any move towards Islamic rule.
