It's pure doublethink
To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again, and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself—that was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed. Just some ideas:
- try deprogramming one of your MAGA relatives
- boycott the big evil corporations
- eat less meat, drive your car less
- VOTE in every election
- involve yourself in your community
- help in local election campains
- maybe even involve yourself with a new local chapter of DSA? (I don’t know how it works in the US on a local level)
- complain
- If you’re up to it, throw your sabot
When we say American, we don’t mean every single American. We speak of overall societal tendencies. And yes, you live in a society. You are part of it. I’m sure you know, but the first step to overcoming a problem is to identify it.
Americans are like fish who don’t know what water is.
Well, they enjoy beeing cruel, we not so much. But they love their stuff more than their family members.
That’s so unfair and obviously not true. They do so much.
They consume. Like a lot. They keep repeating: we can’t really do anything about it. That takes at least some effort. They ignore reality so hard, which can’t be easy at this point.
