Even if this is true, which is a big if, I wouldn’t hesitate to vote for Talarico over Paxton if I lived in Texas. Talarico could get a full frontal lobotomy and I’d vote for him over Paxton.

When told such a single-payer model would eliminate private insurance plans, that overall support dropped to 52% — still well ahead of the 37% favorability seen in the 2020 survey.
That’s weird to me. Are people really that impressed with their private insurance plans? Because I’ve had several private plans in my life and none of them were better than Medicare, for the price.

We need to go to permanent standard time. Just fall back on November 1st and never change the clocks again.

Trump brushed aside the likelihood of Democrats winning, telling Time magazine that, so long as he campaigns with candidates, Republicans could perform well.
Trump might not trust the polls but I bet he trusts polymarket, and it’s currently showing 63% chance of Democrats taking the Senate and 93% of Dems taking the House.

Uh huh

I was looking at the new Slate truck and that at least looks somewhat promising
Yeah, the Slate is interesting. The fact that it doesn’t have a massive infotainment screen is itself enough to keep me intrigued. I’m not an early adopter, though. I’m going to see how their first model run goes, at least.

Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we have finally ended the illegal mandate that forced automakers to produce more expensive electric vehicles that American families didn’t want,” Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy said in a statement touting vehicle affordability, vehicle safety and investment in American auto workers.
Damn straight! If my car or truck ain’t big, loud, inefficient, polluting and running exclusively on completely nonrenewable, expensive to refine, 100 million year old fossil goo, I ain’t interested! Who cares if only less than 25% of the energy contained in a tank of gas is actually used to move my car, while the other 75%+ is totally wasted as heat. Efficiency is for nerds.
Seriously, though, I really don’t want an expensive EV. I want an affordable EV. We need more of those.

I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t entirely agree. Trump did win the presidential nomination of one of only two established major political parties. Many Republican politicians who had been part of the US political establishment for decades are now among Trump’s coalition. Trump also has the support of some established media organizations, like Fox News. I would also argue that the business establishment is largely the same as it was before Trump came into office.

Yes, most Americans are very upset with the establishment. They just can’t agree on who the establishment is.
Obviously Trump is currently the establishment since he’s the one in power right now, but the irony is a lot of the people who voted for him did so because they were angry with the establishment that preceded him. So, many Americans are angry at an establishment that was meant to take on a past establishment that many other Americans had been angry with.

I do this for our Country, not myself. I’ve made Hundreds of Billions of Dollars on Stocks, and many other type Holdings, for the U.S.A., not myself
How the hell is that supposed to work? Like, is his financial success supposed to inspire us or fill us with national pride? What the hell do I care if he’s made hundreds of billions of dollars on his investments (assuming that’s even true)? Fuck his investments. Fuck him.

At the same time a liberal democracy can vote that a minority ethnic group should all become slaves.
That’s not what Hayek was talking about when he referenced a “democratic government lacking liberalism.” He was talking about Chile after the election of Salvador Allende, a socialist. Allende “sought to nationalize major industries, expand education, and improve the living standards of the working class.” No mention of mass enslavement. Although his replacement, Augusto Pinochet, who was supported by Hayek and the US, tortured and/or murdered tens of thousands.

That’s true. Does that mean you agree with Hayek?

Ask a liberal which is worse, fascism or socialism and you might be surprised how many would say socialism is worse, if they were being honest. Not that they like fascism. Not at all, they hate it. They just hate socialism more. To them, fascism is the lesser of the two evils. And I’m not just making this up, a prominent liberal economist of the 20th century said it explicitly:
As you will understand, it is possible for a dictator to govern in a liberal way. And it is also possible for a democracy to govern with a total lack of liberalism. Personally I prefer a liberal dictator to democratic government lacking liberalism.

All good ones.

There already were federal departments for such things.
That’s true. Those departments have served a similar purpose to what I described.
There’s really no reason, then, not to abolish the Senate, in my opinion.

As it is, the Senate makes representation in Congress less proportional, which I think makes it less democratic.
I have wondered, though, if the Senate could serve a different purpose. I wonder if the Senate could become a body of experts, like medical experts, scientists, and those with extensive knowledge, education and experience in an important field of study. That way, there would be a kind of technocratic body that could push back against or otherwise moderate misinformed policy that might come from voters and their representatives. Just a thought I’ve had.

…Gordillo, who listed the LES one-bed, one-bath as his primary residence at that time…
So, he’s rich because he lives in a one-bed, one-bath home? What, because it costs $1.5M? Inflation doesn’t make everyone rich. It doesn’t work that way.
An immigrant from Peru, Gordillo grew up in South Florida with his parents, who ended up thriving in America.
And now he wants everyone in America to thrive. What a guy.
There’s this idea that socialists want everyone to be poor and miserable, and that we’re opposed to prosperity. It’s horse shit. What we want is for everyone to thrive and prosper as much as possible, instead of only a relatively small number of people receiving most of the benefits of economic prosperity.
There’s only one immigrant who should be stripped of their citizenship and deported and that’s Elon Musk.
