I was abused by my christian parents.

I would like to live long enough to see humanity mature out of superstition and free the world from human greed.

  • Boomers in a nutshell, sacrificing their children to the cult of stupid greed.

“It’s torture that as her mom and as her family, we could not protect Renee,” the mother testified, clearly emotional. “But no one can protect against others who are determined to disregard our country’s constitutional rules and values.”

    Cowardly bigot.

We vote differently, but we love each other deeply. I’m a registered Republican. I voted for President Trump under the impression that these agents were here to protect the citizens of the United States — innocents like our family and the others here — against terrorists, certainly not to accuse those here of being terrorists and take precious lives.

Immigration is not a crime. You got exactly what you voted for, dumbass. They were always going to kill innocent people. They will continue killing innocent people.

After all, what punishment did her killer face?

The 37-year-old Good, not a target of ICE but rather an activist partially blocking a roadway in Minneapolis, was shot four times by Jonathan Ross, who has since transferred states and resumed his duties.

None at all, it’s a shameless terrorist organization. Abolish ICE.

  • A Christian is, by definition, someone who believes in the divinity of Jesus Christ

I spent hours debating someone who could not acknowledge this. I kept trying to point out that the entire notion of christ is built on the idea that an abusive god demands blood sacrifice, and they kept insisting christians can believe whatever they want.

They said the christian bible is one of many different christian texts, which is true, but they refused to acknowledge that most christians find that text in particular very important. It’s why it’s known as “the christian bible,” and the best-selling book of all time.

They said not all christians believe Jesus is god, and they cited catholicism as an example, to which I brought up the Nicene creed and quotes from the pope. If one believes Jesus is christ, why would one reject what Jesus supposedly said about being the son and the father? What sense does a savior, messiah, christ make without the threat of punishment to save us from?

My position is that because there is no such thing as a real christ, there is no such thing as a real christian. Every one is a fake christian. They each interpret Jesus differently because no one today actually knows what he was like, and the accounts we have of his life contradict each other. The label has become so meaningless, I have no idea what someone actually believes when they say they are christian, but I know they are not thinking critically.

I think you’re right, though. I wouldn’t say a theist is a fake theist, I would say there’s no reason to believe in god. I guess I should take the same approach when it comes to christ. I just wish I could splash cold water on humanity’s face. Too many christians break out the “no true scotsman” fallacy when another christian disagrees with them or does something they don’t like, failing to recognize that their own baseless views can be just as harmful, failing to recognize that they’re normalizing the exact magical thinking they’re criticizing. I want humans to stop playing make-believe when our lives are at stake.

  • Kinda…

    Matthew 8:

Then Jesus said to the centurion, “Go your way; and as you have believed, so let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that same hour.

    Matthew 9:

But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

    Mark 5:

And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”

    Mark 11:

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

    Luke 17:

And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

It’s no wonder many bible believers come away thinking all they need is faith and prayers.

And hey, what if sickness and death are good things, actually?

    Romans 5:

Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope

    Romans 8:

But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

    And:

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

    2 Corinthians 4:

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

That is how we get here: https://www.texastribune.org/2025/03/20/texas-measles-family-gaines-county-death/

“It was her time on Earth,” the translator said the parents told her. “They believe she’s better off where she is now.”

  • YES! Thank you for calling that out. It is so frustrating. Submitting completely to arbitrary authority is not moral. It’s one way we get people proudly advocating for homophobia, rape, genocide, and more.

Human morality is something we evolved to help us survive. It changes with us, as our circumstances change. IMO, using baseless claims about supernatural punishments and rewards to manipulate people into harming themselves and others is insanely immoral. That ain’t love.

I am staggered by the amount of grown adults who take the bible seriously. It’s deadly, stupid nonsense.
