You actually need for most games unless you cracked them or they are DRMfree and got no integration, their client opens and run in the background when you launch the game.

For GOG the only application you need is a web browser, you download the games directly from the site and don’t need to install or have anything else running. For me a launcher is just bloat, I can browse my library just fine on the site without having to install any program.

Having to download, install and run their launcher just so I can download, install and run the game I want to play is a huge inconvenience for me. I’d rather pay a small sum on GOG and just actually have the game instead of leasing it.

I actually wrote a rant last month when Steam fans were saying Sony was bad for dropping physical games? What? How many physical games they bought from Steam?

My hypothesis is that lemmings grew up thinking it’s normal having to launch a program that will connect to the internet and do all kinds of checks and telemetry recordings, even check what else I have running on my machine, just so I can launch the program I actually want to launch while this other one is consuming my battery and RAM in the background.

I use 1337x.st too because it has a lot of trackers (but the search sucks)

Sometimes I use it to sort and format data, and it’s ok, but I always doublecheck it… some time ago I wanted to use it to create random groups following a few specs, and it couldn’t at all, it messed up every try, and it turned out just writing numbers on pieces of paper and pulling them out of a hat was less time consuming than trying to get the AI to follow the instructions… just yesterday I had set a color palette and wanted it to give me the resulting hex colors for a 24-step hue rotation, and it literally said it could do it but wouldn’t do it lol, I’d probably have to break it down and do one step at a time to not break the machine… it was easier to find the matrix used for the calculation and make a script to do it… fuck these clankers
