The total lack of context doesn’t help.

I prefer to lean friendly & understanding, yet as someone dealing with a terminal disease, I’ll admit that irritability can happen fast. Eh, nous faisons ce que nous pouvons. 🙄

Understandable reaction, but I think it’s good to remember that most people are going to have fuzzy understandings of these things and will naturally ask somewhat naïve questions like this. Personally I think it’s better to find ways not to be too hard (or hostile) when responding with better information, else they get the swift idea ‘well, if they’re going to treat me like an arse then me mind’s made up,’ and all that jazz. And nothing changes.
Just my tuppence of course.
My original comment / response appears at the top of the thread, so feel free to critique, TBF.

Dark Matter is just a placeholder AFAIK until something more proven comes along. It explains why galaxies hold together, but it’s just a stand-in for the time being.
I feel a lot of science has bogged it’s self down with theory and maybes for decades and decades
I mean, scientifically there’s a huge difference between the two. For example, the theory of gravity is so well-tested and supported that it’s about as close to proven as can be. A “maybe” isn’t even a hypothesis yet, but it’s perhaps an intermediate step. Maybes are good, because they represent relevant scientists coming up with ideas to help explain reality, which can then fade away or solidify as things unwind. Without maybes you don’t get well-supported theories… which is like science not able to get anywhere.

Huh! Okay…
Thank you!
Unfortunately, haha, as with most such tech advances, I’m just waiting for billionaire a-holes to buy up the means of production and use it to further leverage it against the common man for capitalistic purposes. Same ol’, same ol’.
(nevermind, that’s just my cynical side talking 😅)

Sorry for being in a hurry, but these new methods differ from de-salination plants…?

Meanwhile this admin seems to be doing everything it can to defund science (amongst everything else).
It seems so bizarre to me to see their swathe of supporters who seem so skeptical and even hostile to science, yet whose lives are utterly chock a block with utilities, luxuries and toys made possible by science.

Upvote, but I think what would really help when posting deep or deep-ish research / thought-pieces is to excerpt some telling portion of the article in order to show us what you personally found interesting, as well as to share some key bit of interest from the piece.
Social media streams are so driveby-ish in nature that they’re heavily geared towards a quick look or impression of an image and or bit of text, that merely linking to something will tend to get less engagement (assuming that was the point). Even in a science sublemmy, I would think.
Just my driveby-ish 2¢.
Basic mechanism…?

Ah, I love that dev’s work. Always with the original stuff.
Anyway, I recognise that game as an old classic. I wouldn’t really say “Catan” because the regions don’t have specific resources, but yeah, kinda like Risk with special units. There’s also a deep campaign version of it online:

And as usual, any extra expenses coming from the UFC will just work out to less revenue for the fighters in the end, who have already been chronically underpaid for years.
I suspect that the ‘apathy’ thing might be more complex than appears on the surface. For example, there might be a certain amount of mental self-protection going on there, even though that probably sounds paradoxical in terms of taking vital action against a future surveillance state.
