  • David Hansson is absolutely a racist xenophobic piece of shit.

Yeah, that’s what a Nazi is. Acting like it’s not akin to Nazism is what’s actually pissing on the graves of people who died in the war. “Erm, actually someone is only a Nazi if they were a member of the National Socialist Party in Germany during WWII” is doing them a favor. Don’t let them hide.

Coming from someone who was raised in the southeast US, a huge part of the Lost Cause of the South movement wasn’t to erase what the Confederacy did, but to just paint them in a slightly more positive light. Rebranding, so to speak. Acting like some specific breed of ultranationalism isn’t technically “a Nazi” is just the same shit. In the minds of many people that live near me, there is absolutely nothing odd about celebrating under the world’s largest Confederate monument with fireworks. Despite the fact that it was finished in response to Brown v. Board of Education. Despite the fact that Stone Mountain has historically been and still is associated with the literal KKK. It’s the same shit.

Being pedantic about the terms helps them.

  • It’s odd that it shows Brave as FOSS but not Firefox. Assuming it’s not merely that nobody listed Firefox as FOSS yet and it’s because Firefox’s page says the “source code” is licensed under MPL but not the binary itself… Brave literally has this on the app.

My understanding was that all rights reserved meant specifically not foss. Like it’s just the default copyright. But Brave lists itself as using MPL on another page. Which is ironic, because obviously Firefox uses MPL.

I feel like this is just because nobody submitted Firefox as FOSS yet.

  • Gosh. I remember working with this back in 2019 and earlier. Our legacy products ran on it. I remember a new service we made (before Spring Boot really took off) used TomCat. It was so much easier to mess with. I asked why we don’t use that for our main product. Imagine my surprise when they said we actually used to.

I’m sure they had their reasons, I was a younger dev at the time and didn’t have insight into why they changed it. But still. Everything is so simple now. Java to run your jar. Your jar has your server built in. Done. And that’s not even including containerization.

I do miss Jenkins though. GitHub Actions seems to be the new hotness. Maybe I just don’t have the muscle memory yet, but it can be annoying.
