Linux@lemmy.ml•Several vulnerabilities discovered in the Linux kernel
11·8 days agoAny insight into the most severe ones, eg is remote exploitation possible and likely?
The Linux project request CVEs for any memory safety bug just in case some turn out to be vulnerabilities, in which case they may be exploited given enough effort. Many are likely not exploitable or unlikely to be, and/or loaw severity.
There are some higher severity ones given the following message. But this doesn’t mean all CVEs listed are severe issues.
Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that may lead to a privilege escalation, denial of service or information leaks.

15·28 days agoWhen someone puts out new stuff every hour, it will get seen by many more people…
Has any social media tried grouping/folding posts per author and day? If an account write a 12-posts rant or marketing push in a single day, the feed could show the first 1, with a button to “see 11 more posts by Account123” similar to how large threads are folded by default.
I’m avoiding big tech social media and don’t know if any have tried that recently.

Technology@beehaw.org•AI Is Creating New Jobs But Millions of Workers May Not Be Ready
15·1 month agoThis article have lots of signs it was in large part AI generated. Multiples lists, em-dashes, AI generated illustrations.
I don’t see any clear disclosure on the article’s page, but there’s a AI policy page explaining how it’s used in many way, including for the writing.
It makes it hard to take this seriously. If this online media don’t bother writing articles themselves, why bother reading them?

Technology@beehaw.org•‘Nightmare fodder’: Roku’s AI slop channel is even worse than expected
4·2 months agoThey are losing billions… of investor money.
This may include people investing in index funds, now that Musk’s Space/AI company is publicly listed. Maybe a piece of people’s pension fund as well, if NVIDIA’s wish comes true. https://fortune.com/2026/08/13/nvidia-wants-your-pension-fund-in-the-ai-trade/
The layman with money in index or pension fund probably don’t intend to invest in AI, but here we are.
Do users actually want such AI summaries? Is there any good polling on this?
I mostly read about people being annoyed by companies pushing hard for AI, and trying to get rid of those unrequested summaries.
Mostly out of the loop, I use this fork as well. Apps distributed on the F-Droid repo are OSS, built from source, and screened for malware.
If the fork is no longer maintained I expect it to be removed from the repo, that should be announced on the blog with the regular app news.

More important, it’s normalizing use of facial recognition in everyday situations. This is a very invasive tech and prime for abuse by increasingly totalitarian governments.

High power chargers have specific uses cases, such as public charging stations in high traffic areas. They are useful for quick charge when it’s the only option. They cost more to purchase, install, and it’s going to cost more for people charging at those stations.
Drivers who can wait a few more minutes would be better off using cheaper lower-power charging stations, or ideally charging overnight at home.
