This website is aggressively bad. Why does my cursor have to disappear completely when I stop moving and become a gray circle when I do move it? Way over-designed.

When I think of FOSS, and people who are seriously committed to a copyleft future, these names suddenly spring into my mind

• Tobi Lütke, CEO of Shopify
• Patrick Collison, CEO of Stripe
• Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies
• Jack Dorsey, Block Head and Chairman of Block
• Matthew Prince, CEO of Cloudflare
• Brendan Iribe, Cofounder of Sesame and Oculus
• Jason Fried, CEO of 37signals

IDK why. Generosity, Linux, FLOSS, sharing, GPL… these terms all come to mind when those people’s names come up.

Oh wait, no it doesn’t.

this framing is so stupid to me

An East Tennessee county commissioner sparked controversy after suggesting during a public workshop that Flock CEO Garret Langley should be hanged for treason.

Excuse me? The real controversy is the nation-wide surveillance network used to track everyone’s movements. The commissioner’s response seems to be very measured in light of that fact.

Free him!!

If you really want to get into technical writing, you can try to study along with this free course. https://developers.google.com/tech-writing

MIT and BSD are the corporate friendly licenses that say you can take my code and use it and even make it proprietary, as well. So long as you provide attribution, do whatever you want.

If that’s fine by you then choose that license. You can read little summaries here but be advised this page is owned by GitHub and they have an interest in seeing MIT and BSD adoption, so the language they use subtly reflects that IMO https://choosealicense.com/licenses/

The time you spend waiting at the checkout line is the time the business running the grocery store realized they could steal from you.

The rust coreutils project choosing the MIT license is just another gambit to allow something like android or chromeos happen to gnu+linux, where all of the userland gets replaced by proprietary junk.

And yet that’s a popularly welcomed approach, for some reason. Just look at the number of thumbs down this has. https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/1781
