No shit. The Dems, as usual, have failed to give the working class a reason to vote for them. They only ever give reasons to vote against their opponent. This strategy fundamentally fails to motivate anybody who isn’t already plugged into politics.

So if the democracy is a lie, nobody should be getting mad when people choose to vote third party, or refuse to engage with voting, right?
….
Right?

This is exactly why US democracy is a lie. If you get a “choice” between evil and hellish, you don’t really have a choice.

It’ll be either Newsom or Harris again, because it’s still her turn.

You obviously haven’t been on Lemmy for too long. Anyone disagreeing with the “blue no matter who” rhetoric on here gets called a tankie.

I mean, Democrats in general are controlled opposition, so that’s not even a real question. They all serve the interests of capital, not the working class.

Sure, that’s a hard line for many people who vote with their conscious, and probably most protest voters agonized over the decision, knowing that in our system it could help Trump (although, as it turns out, even if every single third party vote went to Kamala, it still would not have been enough for her to win — protest voters are a tiny demographic).
That’s still more nuanced than “Blue no matter who” or “nothing but genocide on their minds.” (As if genocide isn’t a huge fucking thing that should break every politician who supports it, but that’s a separate argument.)

I’ll be honest, most of the people I see critiquing elections or candidates like Kamala have nuance to their views. Which makes sense, because it takes reflection and thought to break with the normal for most people.
On the other hand, I see tons of binary “any criticism is anti-electoralism and literally fascist” takes online that totally lack nuance. Which also makes sense, because when confronted with a break in normality, most people tend to react emotionally, not logically.

Even hundred millionaires and multi-tens millionaires have too much. 10 million is more than enough for you and your children to never have to work and live a comfortable life.
Even that is too high if everyone else on the planet does not have enough for basic necessities after an honest day’s work.

For the people who think this means Marxists don’t want you to vote — no, we just want you to have some standards and vote for better people. Don’t give a mandate to politicians who profit from genocide.

Nah, it’s always been this way. A nation of virtuous people doesn’t Manifest Destiny their way across a continent, killing and enslaving everyone in the way.

Maybe your co-worker knew that socialism ain’t the same thing as social welfare programs and instead a socioeconomic system where the economy is controlled by the working class, not the capitalists. And then maybe your co-worker was a class traitor for understanding that and still disliking it.
…
No, that’s too many maybes, they probably are just propagandized.

This is why I hate the TACO line. Sure he backs off sometimes, but then he just does it anyways a few months later when no one is paying attention.

Unfortunately, the United States has never had democracy, just the illusion of it.

This is the fall of the Weimar Republic, part two.

I haven’t trusted our elections since 2000 when Bush stole Florida. Even as a child it was obvious something was wrong.

Well that’s the rub isn’t it? Those trillion dollars are currently going to capitalists’ pockets, and if we did Medicare for All, that money would stay in the working class’s pockets.

In other words, our private heathcare system kills 114,000 people a year because it’s not profitable to keep them alive.

No it isn’t. Not unless the government is controlled by the working class, which it isn’t.
This is pretty doomer. There are plenty of ways to circumvent Flock and Palantir.
