I see. I thought owners community were people who wanted to actually own their smart tvs and bypassed that shit. Not a consumer subreddit.

I might be confused about something. I’m assuming “owners community” means people that bought smart tvs and kept them offline for privacy reasons. Those types are the sort of people who do think about those things.

Something like that would actually make sense to make a 3d print of. It could be reused that way.

I’ve never owned a smart tv. What did they think was happening before now? What data did they think was filling the storage?

Just use a black plastic bag. If the sun cooks it, it will melt into the lens and ruin it anyway.

Remotes aren’t complicated enough to hide the microphone. It’s more likely that tvs ditch the remote entirely and be voice controlled only, mute people be damned.

They stopped telling that lie after 9/11, The Patriot Act and The 100 Mile Border Zone where the constitution doesn’t apply.

By law, smart phones in Japan have to have their shutter sound being hard coded on in the settings to prevent perverts from taking upskirt shoots. I’m not sure how effective it is, but it would at least prevent the casual voyeur. Looks like meta glasses have a recording light, but there are people selling hacking services to disable it and of course it’s being advertised on Facebook Marketplace.

For people that don’t want to be dragging into a civil rights case, can you set up a dummy interface that looks used, but doesn’t have any too important available? Like you only owned the phone for a week?

So long as it’s not about Tiananmem Square.
People are just clueing in to how bad it’s actually been since 9/11.
