Must be the last few now…
Depends…
If someone’s just arrived home, the freezer door’s open, etc, then I’m using Home Assistant to speak / flash a light / etc.
If a device fails, then Uptime Kuma sends via to ntfy & gotify (I’m trying both atm to decide on one)
If it’s something I’ve (not) done, then my partner tells me (arms folded, stern look)
I’m currently running both to decide which to use, what made you pick ntfy?

Someone took Arch added some packages & configs and is now making $$$$
Not yet 🙂
Both services work well, but the (Android) app is also a consideration… Gotify appears to keep losing the connection, but as I have different alerts going via different routes I need to sit down and spend some quality time with these, which I don’t have at the moment.

SMART data will show the data you mentioned; age of the drive, max temperatire, etc.
I always do a full scan of a new drive too - no matter the supplier

Thanks for the link list, I coud read what was interesting to me instead of the whole thing

Wow. Harsh comment.
It’s not like your own post was full of details either
Sorry, no disrespect intended, but I’m shocked. It’s like hearing someone say they drive a 1988 Toyota Cressida because it’s great…
How did you know I had an 88 Cressida? (jk)
You have good points there, but for a homelab, it does show some interesting insights (ie, I did an upgrade of my Raspberry Pi Zeros and saw how all their latency changed after the reboot… weird)
I’ve been using this for years as it just worked, but a recent update has broken it (a simple “v1.10 is earlier than v1.9” issue) and I had to rollback and have been waiting for someone to fix the bug for a few weeks, so, yep, the slowness of response is a fair point.
Ah, dunno, maybe I’ll look at some alternatives… one day…
What’s not to like?
Still alive & still maintained, and less resources than Grafana & Prometheus…
Uptime Kuma if I want something to alert me (still trying to decide between ntfy & gotify)
Home Assistant is also checking some stuff
Watchdog to reboot my Raspberry Pi Zeros when they fall off the wifi
Smokeping for a general, long term feel of the network, which might answer your bonus question?

Taking this at different levels…
Offsite storage (assuming you have something at home): Hetzner storage boxes (2 different countries to choose from)
VPS for actually doing something, also Hetzner, but, I also use MythicBeasts for a UK specific host and they also host Raspberry Pi servers (not checked the price), so maybe that’s something to consider to dip your toe into the waters

They still are: Fairphone

That’s where I am today with my Fairphone.
I honestly held on to my old Nokia, replacing batteries and cases until Fairphone came along and then I jumped from 90’s tech to modern day.
0–>100% in 10 seconds (with a 2nd battery)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, but you’re absolutely correct

I feel your pain.
I now keep my data backup separate to the OS backups, so a rollback might time travel me back 3 years, but my data’s safe… elsewhere…
(Sure. I might still have to do a restore…)

This is the way
<insert Mandalorian gif here>

To be fair to Ansible, that’s probably a packaging issue.
If the 1st run of an application creates a bunch of files and folders, then the packager won’t know about them and Ansible’s just relying on that.
But yeah, for 1 machine I’d find Ansible overkill (not a problem per se), but really helps when you have 5 Rasperry Pi Zeros scattered around the house 😉
I have this on my NAS, works well
