Voters in Arizona, Nebraska, Colorado and Washington will make their call on the issue, a change of strategy for anti-trans measures, which have been put on the books in 27 states through either legislation or state agency action.
“These four states are part of a larger set of five states that are facing anti-trans ballot measures this fall, and this will be the first year that voters are voting on anti-transgender policy at the ballot box directly. This is part of a broader and coordinated campaign targeting transgender people and their rights for many years now,” said Logan Casey, director of policy research at Movement Advancement Project.

Please don’t let misinformation take over.
One of the initiatives on the ballot is regarding the Parents’ Bill of Rights (Initiative 2081) which this legislature passed and approved in 2024 but in 2025 the legislature rolled it back by House Bill 1296.
Fast forward to now and the initiative you are speaking of asks whether to repeal HB 1296 and fully re-enact the original provisions of Initiative 2081.
The problem is the rhetoric coming from one side in this claiming it’s another bathroom anti trans bill but in reality it protects parents so they can be fully aware of what happens with their children at school and with a doctor’s office. In case anyone is curious WA state does have laws which state that if a child (under age of 18) commits a crime a parent could be held responsible (look at mass shootings for example).
The cry fowl is that an abusive parent could take advantage of children or cause even more harm for an lgbtq child. But let’s be serious that’s what Child Protective Services is for… Whether that is an effective service well you only have to ask the legislature.
Hope that helps fill in some misinformed holes but who am I kidding, someone will probably reply about how this is a MAGA take or it’s backed by that millionaire MAGA douche from CA and in that case I’m glad we could agree on this, Californians and Money have no business being in WA politics.
