    Trump dubbed Andrews “Annie Trannie” in a social media post Monday and said she favored “Transgender for Everyone.” He also shared a commercial attacking her on transgender issues.

    In a direct-to-camera ad, Andrews retorted, “I want you to hear me loud and clear: I don’t support biological men playing women’s sports and I don’t support and haven’t ever performed gender surgery for minors.” As she speaks, text reading “No men in women’s sports” and “No gender surgeries for minors” appears next to her.

    For a state with Republicans running the state house and senate and has two republicans US senators and six of the seven house delegates are republicans this may be a stance you need to take to have a chance in this state.

      I think this is a fallacy: as emphatically as state voters may support anti-trans messaging on a symbolic/narrative level, that doesn’t necessarily translate to support for specific policies. What they care about more than policy is a narrative of strength, and Andrews’ mealy-mouthed denials convey weakness instead.

        I think trans people would be a hundred percent better off with Andrews as a senator over any republican.

        In 2024, Andrews, a pediatrician, criticized a hospital system that suspended gender transition care for patients of all ages under Republican pressure.
