At a press conference in the Bronx, Mamdani listed some of the onerous policies getting the axe. Bodega owners will no longer need a separate license to sell the same products outside the store – like fruit and flowers – as inside. Restaurants will no longer need a “superfluous” frozen dessert permit to sell ice-cream on top of the permit already required to sell food. Barber shops will no longer have to renew their permit every year, instead doing so every three years. Street fair vendor permit fees will be reduced, restaurant inspections will be sped up, and equipment registration fees will be eliminated for a year.

A corresponding executive order signed by Mamdani on Monday will also expand the NYC Best program, assigning each of the city’s 180,000 small businesses – which employ an estimated 1 million people – a case worker to help owners navigate the Big Apple’s sometimes byzantine bureaucracy.

    LOL

A democratic socialist doing something the conservatives scream they are all about, deregulation specifically in support of small business.

Conservatives must be going apeshit in their confusion.

Lol, no they won’t. Some will claim to be unhappy with Trump, then will go to the polls and vote straight R.

Donald Trump wasn’t kidding when he said he could kill a man in the middle of 5th Avenue and not face any consequences.

He’s a well documented pedo, and may have even been involved in the murder of an infant he conceived on a child, and Republicans are still bending over backwards to make sure he’s free to trample on the US Constitution.

Grocery store owners and barber shops? Independent restaurants? Wtf are you talking about? These businesses barely stay afloat in NYC. Same class but they sign a few paychecks. Save the half disdain for their vendors and giant competitors squeezing them out and killing fair competition in the market.

I mean, small businesses are petite bourgeoisie. That’s just the definition of the term. That doesn’t mean they are an enemy of socialism and I don’t think that’s what the person you’re replying to was saying. Of course it would be ideal for small businesses to adopt a cooperative structure but it would be foolish to suddenly try and push that on existing small business owners. In the meantime it’s good to change policy to favor small business over corporations because it distributes wealth more evenly, enables greater social mobility, and fosters community.

On Tuesday, Zohran Mamdani . . . posted a video on X of himself putting a sheet of paper with the phrase “RED TAPE” into a paper shredder. Other pieces of paper, with phrases like “cumbersome fees and fines” and “a permit you need just to serve ice-cream”, were shredded too. The video, set to Wu Tang Clan’s If Time Is Money

    Damn. Okay.

That’s bold and spiteful to do so on X-Twitter. I wish people stopped using it, but I gotta admit that a progressive democrat posting pro-small-business political statements on the Nazi Website is a bit of a one-finger-salute.

I should ask the local pizza shop owner about this. He was pretty anti zohran. He said it’s because he grew up in a post Soviet country, and believed socialism would turn into poverty for all.

They always confuse socialism with harsh authoritarian dictatorships, no doubt reinforced by right wing rhetoric. It’s ironic that people flee these crushing governments only to come to the US and vote for right wing authoritarian fascism. Just proves they haven’t a clue about socialist policy and the ability to differentiate between that and horrible leaders.

I wish more things would hurt big business.

Big business needs to be dragged out into the street and beaten to death with 2x4s, to make room for little guys and little businesses to pop up and serve their local areas, that they live in, and are connected too, instead of some soulless corporate fuckshit that has all the decision making a thousand miles away in a festing cespit (delaware) that has nothing but other HQs and decision makers around them.
