It’s a start! This is just the desktop browsers though. I don’t think they are opening up the mobile browsers.

Brave owns an ad network and that’s all I need to know to never use any of their products.
There are other comparable options that have better companies behind them.
Kagi’s Orion has not given me a reason to hate them except that it isn’t open source. They don’t sell your data and they don’t serve ads.
I can use uBlock on Orion,

4·7 days agoI have barely heard or seen anything Smith said in regard to Trumps crimes. Eric Schmidt making a fool of himself then telling everyone what a great job he did overshadowed it.
Typing that out made me think it was intentional.

4·16 days agoOnce again, many comments that didn’t read the article.
US Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who has previously sounded the alarm over Trump’s “unprecedented” trading, said on Tuesday that “it should be illegal for the president to trade individual stocks—period.”
As it is not, he has to send a 45 day notice that he doesn’t do, which is illegal.

3·17 days agoBrought to you by the people who voted against gerrymandering and then were tricked into allowing gerrymandering a year later by a poorly worded vote.
It worked for Missouri GOO in the past so they’ll just keep doing it

politics @lemmy.world•Brendan Carr was a member of a rogue Alcoholics Anonymous group some labeled a ‘cult’
24·17 days agoI know this is a controversial take but regular Alcoholics Anonymous is also a bit of a cult. It does a lot of good but there are aspects of it that don’t sit right with me.
My dad became a radically different person after attending AA, and not all for the better. He became deeply religious and a bit paranoid. He called me once and told me I should hide ramen noodles and bottled water under my bed and to not tell my roommate about it. That was meant for me when the world ended. He started donating money to some kind of Jewish/Israeli fund.
He quit his job out of nowhere and then didn’t go back to work at all, living in the remains of his retirement fund. He died about a year later at the age of 50.
I’m sure he has his own mental health issues and that behavior wasn’t all from attending AA, but my sister and I do believe AA contributed to some of it.
I’m glad it works for some people. I don’t want to discourage anyone from seeking help, but choose who you follow with caution.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Are there any good google maps alternatives?
01·24 days agoI actually think Apple Maps has gotten pretty good. I think they are better than Google at directions, Google is better at discovery.
I know that’s probably not the alternative you’re looking for, but it’s something.

politics @lemmy.world•Under Trump, hundreds of America’s wild horses are being sold for as little as $25 and being sent to slaughter, report says
19·2 months agoIf killing horses isn’t your thing, what about the fact that they spend $3000 capturing the horses and sell them for $25?
The number isn’t the point of the article tho. Neither is the money loss.
It’s the fact that killing wild horses is illegal. They tried to buy a gas chamber and realized they couldn’t so they started selling them to a middleman first who man who sends them off to slaughter.
This way they can kill horses but claim they didn’t.
Wait until you find out between the discrepancy between House districts across states. Theres a special formula used to calculate the number of districts each state gets but it’s kinda BS and still ends up with unfair distribution.
It’s all because it was capped in the early 20th century instead of just being properly rebalanced.
WI has 1 house rep for every 575k people and CA gets 1 for every 750k people. If it was distributed evening based on the state with the lowest population, CA would get something like an extra 15 votes.
*Note - My numbers could be off a bit. I actually did the math myself several months ago. I didn’t look it up to write this, I just am remembering off the top of my head
