    • You’re clueless about how cargo itself wraps/calls rustc. And how other build systems are doing the same, including the one literally mentioned in OP. “Because having rustc as a standard tool is not there yet” is a completely meaningless nonsensical sentence. Neither is rustc lacking in any way, nor is cargo imposing any sort of hard requirement on itself.
    • You’re clueless about how cargo works. How it natively supports both vendoring (with a single command) and multiple other ways of source replacement.
    • You’re clueless about the fact that rust statically links std by default, and the fact that the ABI is not stable between major rust versions which is a deliberate choice. And thus, the attempt to draw parallels with “C repo and make” is yet another indicator of your cluelessness.

There is more. But I don’t have the time untangle the webs of cluelessness in your comments.

  • Let me do the humble action of quoting myself 🙂 from 5 months ago:

There has been murmurings, mainly from non-technical people, about how “AI” will render advancements in safer type systems nearly useless, because the magic (mushroom) AI will just find all the issues in code written in older languages. What they don’t realize is that the effect will be reversed. Many established projects that come with a high reputation, and a veneer of maturity, indestructibility, and meticulousness, will simply, and perhaps unfairly, lose that perception under the continuous barrage of potentially high impact bugs and vulnerabilities surfaced by these tools, with not enough human bandwidth to keep up with them, and with new code susceptible to the same problems repeating over and over. This will effectively lead to an even harder push for adopting technologies that prevent a good chunk of these bugs from ever happening at any point, not the other way around.

  • Wow! What an observant smart thought.

Well, except for the fact that code conversion doesn’t give you the permission to change licenses or remove copyright. And the small matter of fact that both projects mentioned are Canonical projects, where whatever code that is not directly copyrighted by Canonical, is contributed by someone who signed an agreement with this stipulation:

    (b) To the maximum extent permitted by the relevant law, You grant to Us a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, transferable, royalty-free, irrevocable licence under the Copyright covering the Contribution, with the right to sublicense such rights through multiple tiers of sublicensees, to reproduce, modify, display, perform and distribute the Contribution as part of the Material; provided that this license is conditioned upon compliance with Section 2.3.

“Us” being Canonical of course. So they could actually “re-license” the projects right now, without changing a single line of code.

It’s always astonishing how condiment in their ignorance people are when it comes to these matters.

You geniuses are getting too predictable with your ignorance.

I literally wrote what’s quoted above yesterday replying to someone else.

  • A lot of people interested in tech end up watching at least one of his channels

I don’t watch YouTube at all outside of a couple of 70+ years old personalities who do some weekly commentary (not in English or tech related).

    Zero search/feed/side-bar “consooming”.

Slop-sumption is not unavoidable. You just need to learn how to value your time, and develop a simple objectivity/knowledgeability filter.

  • I’m not even saying ditch the phone just minimize usage of it

    This is the correct take.

I never used the Graphene meme and the shit American Baidu hardware it runs on (security and phone were always an oxymoron regardless). But I was on custom ROMs from around CyanogenMod 3 until Lineage 21. I also owned phones with the highest-end Snapdragon SoC’s.

Over the years, I went from everything unlocked in the open, to “hiding root” to disabling root (I realized I didn’t even need it anymore). And now I deliberately downgraded to a lower-end phone running stock ROM. And even with that, there is an APP from a utility company that refuses to run because the phone has an unlocked bootloader, which was needed to properly recover the phone. So my next phone will be completely stock. Never again.

Most people here tend to be on the younger side. So while their hearts are in the right place, and tend to agree with a lot of genuinely good stuff. They are also very susceptible to falling for memes and becoming a part of circle jerks (they are still r*dditors at heart after all). They also just lack maturity and experience to be able to value situations with less emotion and wishful thinking, and more nuance.

And I didn’t even mention the fact that 📲 is actually their primary online device 🥲.

  • I2P is a fully connected network where everyone is a relay, a UDP transport exists iirc, and there are many other significant technical differences.

And if you’re dreaming of significant masses moving to the shadows, you might as well dream of them using distributed solutions. Otherwise, the monsters will simply find and shutdown the hosts/servers of whatever the good kids are consuming.

There is a connection between August and freedom. Do you know what is it?
