No, they were stolen from the post office, it doesn’t count as a purge if you can’t prove that I ordered it do- I mean that it wasn’t just a freak accident that nobody could possibly have predicted would happen in an important swing district.

And DSA is the first incremental step back towards that. You form a third party and see how far you get without Citizens United money.
It is a horseshit sandwich, but it’s what we’ve got right now. Perfect can’t be the enemy of good, especially right now.
Enemy of my enemy and all, nahmean?
Edit: more accurately, the more we can do to frustrate the actual evil, the more time we ultimately have to find the real solution. Again, it isn’t perfect, but its the solution we currently have.

And the DSA movement is taking that illusion and attempting to effect the change we seek, an inch at a time.
And that’s the only way progress happens right now unless you’re willing to flip the table society rests upon.

So because the choices are evil or useless, you say nothing is preferable which ultimately gives evil the victory.
Dems suck. They have my whole life.
Republicans vary from stupid to straight up evil.
In a choice between “sucks” and “evil,” I know which I choose every time. In case it isn’t clear to you, I am of the firm stance that something that sucks can be tolerated or even turned into something beneficial in the long run. Evil is just evil and has no place in society.
“Don’t support the dems” hands Republicans everything they want.
I wish the blues had a spine or even a real platform from which to launch anything sensible. At least with Obama he made healthcare his platform, and he was so adamant about it that even the Republicans had to deal with it. Was it a stunning success? No, because it was shot full of holes in congress and crippled before it ever got off the ground by the original McConnell group. Obama was not at all representative of my beliefs in most of the rest of his actions, but the man did his best to effect positive change. Nobody else has done that or anything close since, and prior to that we have to go all the way back to the Depression and public works programs to find anything similarly beneficial to the public. Oh, and Social Security. Which has been gutted by - wait for it - Republicans.
Dems are responsible for allowing the overton window to shift so far right and they are rightfully vilified by actual lefties for it.
They’re still better than the alternative.

They’re not here, pal. All flavors of lefites are from vaguely center-left to “it goes that far???”
But none of the right that I’ve seen.

What are you, Kwisatz Haderach?

Turns out my organic LLM occasionally vomits out sensible things, too.

My last use of AI is in my post history and was fairly down voted because I was being foolishly ironic.
This said, I don’t really disagree with his take here despite keeping away from AI as much as I am reasonably able. I do my own critical thinking and hate that I have to jump through hoops on the internet to have a simple question answered without some layman’s AI summary that may or may not be even remotely correct or actionable. Even still, when I asked it to check on local real estate laws and provide summaries of possible actions based on a very strict set of parameters, it gave me information that my wife and I were able to bring to a human agent and have things work out better than we had actually expected.
I think a better way of putting it - and I’m still gonna ruffle feathers - is that AI is becoming the new electricity.
Put down your pitchfork and lemme explain.
When electricity came out, people rather reasonably pointed out that simply coming into contact with an electrical device could result in death if one wasn’t careful. On top of that, the infrastructure required for it was expensive, unsightly, and at the time incredibly disruptive to daily life. It was going to ruin and disrupt entire industries that had existed for centuries because it could do things a human could not do unaided.
All of this is to one degree or another entirely true even through to modern times, but electricity has become a ubiquitous resource that humanity would now deeply struggle to live without. I won’t dare compare AI that far as i genuinely believe humans would be significantly better off without it, but the initial Luddite response to electricity has a historical echo here.
I think Linus’ point is more that it can undoubtedly be a useful tool when used in a measured, controlled, intelligent manner, and that it is a genie that is very clearly unwilling to be put back in its bottle. Like it or not it exists, and while we can absolutely be unhappy about it, being blind to its actual real world beneficial uses because the companies that make it are actual festering waste is a bit silly - especially when in the hands of the right chaotic neutral parties these companies are about to have a massive lesson in just how messy their tools have made things.

When the military budget wasn’t the top line item it was clearly and indisputably bullshit.

And then install a chief who has zero control over the entire force because that pick isn’t part of the in-crowd.
I’m not saying I disagree with your assessment of the current situation, just that the situation as regards peoples actual real lives is far more complicated than your bevy of buzzwords and that is the reality Mamdani has to deal with; whose blood and how much is on his hands? In this case, I’m going to have to err on the side of the guy who actually has the information with a running record of actually making good on his social promises, one Zohran Mamdani.
If you think that guy isn’t loathed by the NYPD for being a brown liberal, then I’ve got a few bridges in his neighborhood that you should totally consider buying from me.

For everyone looking to bash Mamdani over the NYPD;
You all realize they are an armed gang beholden to the wealthy elite that actively see Mamdani as a threat, right? He is the exact thing they don’t want.
And so the moves he makes are designed to not piss off the biggest, best-armed gang in the city that has an international paramilitary wing supported by multiple national governments. You know, to prevent them from going fully rogue en masse rather than just the "handful "of individuals we currently have who step outside the lines designated by “polite” society.
Can he change the commissioner? Sure. Might even be a good first step. Or maybe the devil you know how to deal with is better than the devil you don’t. What pressure valve does she represent, what chip does she have to play that not only keeps her in power but also makes that boys club follow her lead? I don’t know and I’m pretty sure neither do any of you.
Armchair politics is easy when you’ve got nothing but words on the line. Dealing with actual human lives as the NYPD forces you to changes your calculus out of necessity if you wish to retain your own humanity. Which it seems Mamdani does even if he isn’t extreme enough for your personal preferences.
Then why, praytell, wasn’t this fixed last week, hmmm?

Ah yes, physically impossible temperatures, the key to every good print.

The piracy option is by far the cheaper and easier method all things considered. If you like Free Media (Heck Yeah) then just Google those words or even their acronym and you’ll probably be rewarded with all you could ever want. Of course, this isn’t a legal thing I would ever actually suggest anyone do.
This is how a family could have watched things ranging from entire series to latest it-shows to classic films and newest releases as a family while on a reasonable budget. Of course, mind your local ordnance regarding such things and take appropriate measures when doing anything other than verifying those websites exist for purely educational purposes as governments and corporations are absolutely watching every single byte of data that passes through your pipes unless you actively shield it. You will receive notices about any illicit activity they detect and they would be within their legal right to restrict or deny your access to the internet for piracy and theft.
On an unrelated note, I’m quite happy with Proton VPN and the services they offer. Being Swiss-based with that reputation for international privacy, I’m reasonably assured my data isn’t at any greater risk of loss or breach than anyone else relying on a single point of failure and have my eggs in a basket that is otherwise entirely uninterested in me outside a subscription to keep their lights on.
One monthly fee for privacy and a one-time investment in some basic hardware and you’ve got all of humanity’s recorded media on your television. Uh. In theory.
Edit: word. I swear I English good.

Not the specific answer you’re looking for, but the one I’ve got as its the one I use for myself…
I have a RaspberryPi as the default input for my TV now. Any and all interactions with the big screen happen through mouse and keyboard now rather than the TV remote besides power and maybe sometimes the volume.
If you’re looking for a cheaper option than that, I believe you can get older chromesasts/firesticks and jailbreak those for more or less the same results I’ve got with my setup, but YMMV depending on what you’ve got and what you seek.

How dare you make actual sense in this modern age! I’m gonna go stick a fork in the electrical socket in a fit of rage to get back at you!
The article in its entirety:
Great. What’s the breakthrough? Who are the rivals? What edge was gained and what edge can be kept?
