Between those two, CachyOS for sure. You are already running LMDE, imo there is zero benefit to dual-booting with Ubuntu… You are likely going to be running into the exact same problems you already are.

Man, there are a lot of idiots that have clearly never used any Arch based distros for any appreciable amount of time just constantly sharing the same slop talking points.
This whole (prompted) “article” is just a rehashing of every idiot’s idea of what an immutable distro means (“it can’t break”. Bullshit) and what a rolling release distro means (“It’s unstable, it always breaks!”. Bullshit).

My biggest problem with all these attacks on 3d printing is that what you are talking about is completely legal as far as I am aware. There are tons of places online that sell partial receiver blanks that require the buyer to do the last few bits of machining and turn a “block of metal” into a “gun”, legally speaking. It is currently completely legal for an individual in the US to build a gun without telling anyone about it for personal use so long as the final result does not run afoul of ant NFA rules (like automatic fire, length of shotgun, caliber size, etc.). They don’t start doing anything illegal until they sell them, or even give them away (again, assuming they meet all of the NFA rules - obviously someone making themselves a gun has a high risk of running foul of the myriad of rules here, but the end result has to be evaluated to determine if they broke the law or not).
So all of these are just using gun terror as an attack vector against 3d printing in general. Just like the “think of the children” campaigns all over the world that are really just about stripping us of privacy and security. The guns aren’t the real problem and neither are the kids. A free, private, and secure populace is the problem.
I am not advocating that people build their own guns. I am not a lawyer. I advise anyone go learn your local laws and discuss with actual legal counsel before choosing to attempt anything that could be against federal firearm law. kthx

I’d buy that any of that mattered if our time zone borders were straight vertical lines, but they aren’t. The time zone borders are wonky as hell already. Also, we have 25 time zones currently (-12h through +12h with 0h in the middle), and there are exceptions all over the place. There are places that are +13h and +14h, there are 30m and 45m changes, etc.
We don’t need the whole world to redefine an hour for us to go from 4 time zones to 6. We could have extreme east and west regions joining with their nearest oceanic time zones to give us a broader range of times and then re-align the interior regions in a way that makes as much sense as possible and probably be in a much better place.
edit: Also, I don’t really know why I am doing such a deep dive into time zones, I really don’t care that much personally. All my clocks change themselves basically, and my commute is going to be in the dark all winter anyway…

In that case, I would advise you read the unetbootin wiki about “hard disk install modes” and see how much of it you feel comfortable with. It is a bit of hoop jumping but if you are comfortable with partition editors it seems to be the most straight forward method to me.
Someone mentioned netboot.xyz, but reading their docs I couldn’t (quickly) find a way to set it up from windows without having some sort of boot media, and it would require another entire device on the network to boot from, which seems way more expensive than a USB drive.

This is a tricky question, mostly because you tagged it as “Noob”… It is technically possible, but it does require jumping through some hoops I would not normally recommend to a novice. Attempting through a VM is probably the safest option, but pointing a VM to an entire physical disk isn’t typically something I would recommend, but is likely much safer than doing live partition editing manually and on the fly.

That makes no sense. This doesn’t change the amount of time in a day (or daylight in a day). They still have to get everything done in the same amount of time. Farmers have always been a red herring for DST.
I think the real problem is that our time zones are too fat. The best modern reason I can find for DST is reducing accidents during typical “rush hour” commuting times. No matter what we choose, one or both “edges” of a time zone will be left doing either the morning or evening commutes in the dark, which significantly increases likelihood of accidents. We usually err on the side of evening commute if there isn’t enough daylight for both because we tend to send kids to school around the same time as the morning commutes, and having a bunch of children walking around in the dark while assholes are in a hurry to get to work is a recipe for disaster.
Yet another problem that could be solved by better infrastructure for public transit…

I love Garuda. I tried Bazzite and CachyOS, but I just keep ending up back on Garuda. I feel like it is the only one that really lets me just use my computer and not think about the OS when I don’t want to.

Nothing against OpenSUSE tumbleweed, as I’ve heard great things, but I thought it was also rolling release, very similar to Arch…?

IMO, Manjaro mostly just convinces people “Linux isn’t ready” and sends them back to windows except for a select few gluttons for punishment.

You aren’t “building community” either, you are dictating how other people are supposed to think while doing your level best to beat your moral high-horse to death. Stop putting people in boxes for them and get fucked with this cyber-hippy bullshit.

I am most definitely not on the same team as people that use chatbots so often they start to mimic their slop-style writing techniques. Worry about yourself, you don’t get to decide what team I am on, tyvm.
Also, I am not “just being an ass”, I am paraphrasing MIT scientific research.
Looking it up from some different sources I could find the following listed as summaries of the patents:
Multi-axis motion systems
Heated bed management
Enclosed chamber thermal control
Filament flow monitoring
Error detection software
Those first two are basically every printer sold for the last 6 or 7 years? Seems weird they let Creality (and everyone else) do their thing for years without issue and just decided to go after Bambu. I am not a Bambu fan by any stretch, but still doesn’t seem to add up.
Yea, it also has basically no info. Even if it was written by a person, they should feel bad if they got paid for this.

This has always been a thought in the back of my head regarding GrapheneOS and why I never bought into the fan hype around it. Google has always been 100% in control of the door letting these AOSP projects function and they have been slowly closing the door for ages now. It will be fully closed at some point.

Yes, it has been scientifically proven that you are getting dumber by using an LLM regularly to do your thinking for you. Congratulations.

There is a pretty big gap between “AI use is allowed but you better know what your code does before you submit a PR” and “I typed some stuff into a prompt about an edgy line art wolf and an arch based distro, now I have a some .iso files to share”.

No pictures of it anywhere, the github is a ghost-town (and their profile was created 3 days ago), and absolutely zero information at all for what this does that a default Arch install doesn’t.
Honestly, even this post reads like it is AI generated. Images on the website look straight out of Midjourney. Lemmy instance popped up looks like 1 day ago and is filled with likely AI posts… I would not be surprised if 100% of this is all just outputs from some LLM, the OP’s name included. Like someone’s “agent” is just running amok.
Yea, the amount of people that were sucking off proton when the mullvad shit hit the fan a couple months back was insane. Apparently proton’s brand of fascist leadership is fine. If you tried to point it out, you were brigaded with proton fans trying to “debunk” you.
